Hi Y'all! My NY transplanted friend is now in Hendersonville, NC and asked me today if I know anyone who could transform her 38-year-old well-preserved wedding gown into two baptism gowns. OMG was my reply! I sew a lot, but I would NEVER consider my skill set up to speed to take on such a project nor do I know anyone personally that does that for a living.

Does anyone do this or can you make any referrals? She's very much prepared to pay for such a service. She has a first grandchild on the way in November and will need it by then. I'll send you her contact information, and I'll be quiet after that...being just a messenger! Thank you!

Very special way to create an heirloom from a wedding gown.
I have sewn wedding gowns, prom dresses, costumes, fancy dresses for my daughter (years ago - she is grown & a Mommy herself now). However, I no longer sew for anyone except family.
I do wish her/you luck in finding just the right person for this transformation. I don't believe it is difficult - there are beautiful christening gown patterns - just time-consuming.
Hope it works out & please post pics once it has been accomplished. Thanks.

Can't help you, but I did this with my wedding dress. Not really all that difficult, once I made the first cut. My dress was very simple, without a train, so I could not have gotten two dresses from it.

If you only lived in NY still..

She should be able to find someone local to her. My mom made one from my cousin's first communion dress and mom doesn't sew much anymore. I have made coustumes, wedding dress, prom dresses, etc. She should check with local theater groups and find out who does their costumes. And get a good look at the craftsmanship of the seamstress.
I hope you will be able to post pictures!
