I was at a craft fair today. A little girl ( about 2 yrs. old) was running aroud flipping her skirt. It was so cute & she just loved that skirt. It was a quilter's take of a hula skirt. I'll try to describe for those with DGD's. It was made from 1.5 inch (pinking shears) strips, folded over at the top to form a little loop (about 1 inch). A ribbon was run through these loops to form the waist band. I'm guessing 15-20 strips. Instead of strips of fabric I'd probably just use all ribbon.

I saw a tutorial for a tutu made similar to this method. She used the tulle that you can buy on the rolls. Six inches wide and twice the length you want. Take a piece of elastic waist size and fasten the tulle strips with a slip knot all the way around. I can't wait for granddaughters. They are going to have as many twirly skirts as they want!!

I made my g-daughter a tule skirt and veil when she was small. She loved it. I gathered the tule, sewed it to a piece of grograin ribbon. This could be tied abourd her waist. The veil gathered more tule stitched across the top of gathers, then glued it to a head band.

Well talked to the gramma. The child's name is Shelly & she's 18 months old. The skirt is part of her fairy princess costume. The running & jumping is what the princess does to start to fly. Shelly knows she has to be about 6 (that's really old) before she can fly. LOL.
