I've thought about publishing a quilt book of patterns I have created. But everywhere I looked it cost money up front. But I have found a site that lets you publish both print and ebooks with no up front costs. All costs come out of the sale price if/when your book sells.

So, if any of you are looking to publish your own book of patterns, or any other kind of book, check this site out.

www.lulu.com

They also sell well known books at a good discount. Apparently they can do this since each book is printed upon order, so there is no inventory being warehoused somewhere

I believe Amazon.com has a means of letting you self-publish and then sell on its site. You might want to check that out as well!

I checked out amazon, the self-publisher they use charges up front about $299 for the basic package.

Yeah, that's what i thought when my daughter first told me about the site. But I have researched it and it is legit, there really are no hidden costs. They do offer advanced services which you can pay for, but if you just want a very basic book that you design yourself, following their guidelines, it costs nothing. If you or anyone else buys a book, they take their portion from the proceeds. The more books they publish, the more traffic somes to their site, the sales they make. Simple marketing strategy.

Kind of like vistaprint.com which offers free business cards for the cost of s&h. Seems like a scam, but it's not, I've goten business cards from them. They do this hoping to get your business in other areas and products.

Why don't you check with the couple of board members that have done this...Mike Holmes is one.
