You did a great job Teri.

Pam H 09-07-2015 05:31 PM

Congrats Teri!! Ten pounds is a great loss!
I just got back from a weekend trip to Iowa. Visited my mom and then drove 200 miles to my MIL. After an 800+ mile trip and I forgot to wear my support stockings, my ankles are swollen. Guess I will be peeing that off tonight and tomorrow!
The good news is the weather has cooled down so should be able to get back into my walking routine.

meanmom 09-07-2015 07:09 PM

I rode my bike 20 miles on Saturday and 15 miles today. We went swimming in my neighbors pool today with the grandkids. It was lots of fun.
Back to work in the morning. It is supposed to be really hot for 2 more days and then cool down. I hope so, the classrooms are so hot. I will either wear shorts or a skirt tomorrow. It is much cooler that way. Time for bed.

beckyw 09-08-2015 07:19 AM

Lost two pounds last week. That is pretty good for the weekend of fattening foods I ate. Pecan pie, pizza, ribs, fries and much more. Back on track this week.

No kidding. I lost nothing and I did not have any of the yummy food you are listing. Maybe I will see the rewards next week? I think 2 lbs in one week is awesome. Congratulations!

Great job on the loss!

Feeling good tonight. Burned 1050 calories today walking a little over 6 miles.

Great work out and lots of calories! I bet you are tired too. I did some gardening. It was good to be out there again.

crafty-kid 09-09-2015 05:11 PM

Well...school is back in session and I haven't been able to get my walks in yet, too tired getting used to the new schedule. I'm hoping that my walking during recess is helping a bit, but I want to be less tired so I can do both.

Leann 09-10-2015 09:33 AM

Teri, I think your little body will adjust quickly since you've done this in the past. Muscle memory can be a good thing.

My surgeon continues to be amazed at my progress - wants me to get a shirt that says Rock Star. I go back in December and can do anything except fall. Did he really think he needed to say that? I am forever praying for a long list of people to NOT fall. I've had minor pain the past two days - and actually slept in my own bed for a change. I've been thinking of what I can do to maintain consistency in the good habits I'm trying to establish. I'd like to cut out a lot of starchy carbs and drastically curtail my Dr Pepper fixes. While my weight was down in my doctors office from the last visit, I was still 6 pounds over what I wanted to be.

I have discovered that sewing or other busy work takes my mind off my legs. I may have crossed that line of too much laying around that is causing problems. I'd love to be able to put in the bike miles that meanmom does, but I'm gonna start slow. I'm an all-or-nothing kind of girl - this is a work in progress for me.

I did finish my Burgoyne Surrounded scrappy block yesterday. Once I learn how to upload it to my computer, I'll upload it to a post on the Board. I am not a fan of Windows 8 - can't find my folders.

For the first time in weeks, we do not have any triple digit days in our forecast. Fall is my favorite season.

Pam H 09-10-2015 12:24 PM

Way to go, Rock Star! If your surgeon is happy with your progress, you should be proud of yourself.
I know why fall is your favorite season; you don't dread a long, miserable winter. I spent 6 winters in the Austin area. They were great! I like the cooler temps in fall and the beautiful colors we have up north but knowing what we will endure for our 5 months of winter.....ugh, I hate to even think about it.
My right knee is hurting me. Might have something to do with walking 10 miles in the last 2 days. I'm trying to remember to take my glucosamine twice a day (with a meal).

meanmom 09-10-2015 02:27 PM

Way to go Lynne. Sounds like you are doing well. Teri I am having such a hard time getting back into the school routine too. I come home tired and have a hard time doing any exercise when i get home. I do walk a lot at school because of the way my schedule it. I usually walk between 3 and 3.5 miles at school. Pam you need to build your walking up slowly. Have you tried taking Turmeric with black pepper. My DH and I swear by it. It was recommended to me by a doctor for inflamation. When we run out of it I can tell the difference. I get mine at Costco.
My DD is in the process of moving back here from Tallahassee FL. She flew home for the weekend for several job interviews. She is a nurse. Her boyfriend has already moved here and is living with us until they find a place. It won't be a good weekend eating for me. It is my birthday and my DD has made us a reservation at a Brazilian Steak house I have been wanting to go to. It is kinda expensive, all of my kids are going. They walk around with skewers of meat and you just keep telling them what you want. I had better go biking several times this weekend. The weather is finally cooling down and it is supposed to be a gorgeous weekend here.

Pam H 09-10-2015 06:55 PM

I haven't heard of taking turmeric. I'll have to see if they have it at Sam's. We don't have a Costco. I have been walking since spring. I took too long of a stride 2 days ago and felt it in my kneecap. I think I just stressed something a bit.
Happy Birthday, Pat!! How nice that your DD is moving closer to home.

Irishrose2 09-10-2015 08:07 PM

Happy Birthday, Pat.

I've never seen turmeric and black pepper. Is it a mixed capsule? I have been taking turmeric for years and I've recently read about health benefits of pepper. Oh, oh, I wonder if black pepper is a nightshade. I gave up nightshades 31 days ago when I started the Whole30 diet. The RA in my hands is better. I can't tell as much in the other parts of my body. Dairy may be a contributor to RA, too. I guess I'll find out as I can add it back into my diet now.

I went to my last yoga class Tuesday night. It breaks my heart because I love it, but with my feet having so many screws and plates, the Warrior poses are just too much. The class has progressed from a beginner to an intermediate and I'm not there. It's not fair to Jason for me to continue going. I have a call in to his instructor who teaches a gentle class. I know she travels a lot, but I assume she'd get a sub. We'll see. It's a morning class and I'm not a morning person.

Annaquilts 09-11-2015 05:15 AM

I take turmeric but not with black pepper. Turmeric is supposed to be anti inflammatory and help prevent cancer.

Irishrose2 09-11-2015 10:18 AM

I found turmeric with pepper added on Amazon. I'll add it to my next order.
Scratch the stopping my yoga class. I just talked to my instructor and told him I'd be doing some modifications. Warrior I and II will be done sitting. He's good with it and reminded me he has always told me to do what's right for me. He also reminded my "all or nothing" personality gets in my way at times. Ya think??

I can add dairy and grains back in my food plan and I'm not sure I want to. All or nothing?? Maybe Jason is right.

meanmom 09-12-2015 04:30 AM

Judy the black pepper added to the Turmeric is supposed to make it work better. I have never tried it without so not sure whether it does anything or not. My friend who did the Whole 30 tried the adding things back in to see the effects. She ended up deciding that for her if she really limited her dairy she was fine. She has pretty much kept the grains out of her diet, with an occasional cheat. She said she feels amazing and has discontinued her arthritis meds. She has also lost quite a bit of weight. Her DH cheats more than she does and feel much better too. It sure makes it easier to stick with it when everyone in the house is on the same program.
My Dh told me a couple of weeks ago he hates my car and I should go buy a new one. So I have been car shopping. So for my favorite is a honda CRV. Of course my DS is a mechanic so he gets a really good discount at all of the dealerships that his company owns. I think Honda is the only dealership they don't have. I am going to look at Toyota today and maybe do a 24 hour test drive of a Chevy Trax or a Buick Encore. Going out to dinner for my Birthday and I am going to be so bad!

I wonder if red pepper would help too. Black pepper and I do not get along.

How fun to get to shop for a new car. When you are at Toyota will you check the Toyota RAV also? I is the Toyota version of the Honda CRV. Keep us posted.

Happy Birthday! Will you share what you ate? LOL

Irishrose2 09-12-2015 10:55 AM

Pat, my favorite would be the Buick Enclave. I am tired of trying to see over SUVs and pick ups in parking lots. I'd like to be higher and the Enclave would work for me. My daughter's Honda CVR doesn't ride smoothly at all and has had its fair share of repairs.

I'm thinking dairy might be a problem - not with digestion as it was years ago, but with joint pain. Is there a decent non dairy cheese.

meanmom 09-12-2015 04:58 PM

I test drove a Toyota Rav4 today. I don't like it as well as the Honda CRV. I also drove a Chevrolet Trax and A Chevy Equinox. The salesman convinced me to bring the Equinox home for the weekend to test drive it. At this point I think I want either the Buick or one of the Chevys. It is so hard to decide.
We went out to dinner Boi Na Braza. It is a Brazilian steakhouse. It was delicious. They have a huge salad bar with 65 items. They have bread and some appetizers on the table. They walk around with skewers of meat and you flip a card to green on the table if you want some. I had sirloin, prime rib, parmesan pork, sausage, rib eye, lamb etc etc and more. It was delicious. Since it was my birthday I got free dessert. Triple chocolate mousse cake. OMG was it good. I split it with my DIL. All 4 of my kids were there with their spouses. It was fun. We of course all ate too much but it was fun. I will have to avoid the scale for a few days. We rarely go out so I ate what I wanted.
My joints have been stiff lately. I suspect it is because I have had too much sugar and bread this week.

crafty-kid 09-12-2015 05:39 PM

I did the shopping for a new car in June...and I wanted and decided on the CRV, but then did more research. I found out they have been having issues with the newer tranny style. Even Honda families are saying stay away until they get these issues worked out. I ended up purchasing a Mazda CX5 and really like it.

Annaquilts 09-12-2015 06:38 PM

Sounds like you had a fun birthday. So special all your children and their spouses were able to be there at the same time. The food sounds delicious and the dessert to die for. Have fun trying out the Equinox!

Pam H 09-12-2015 06:46 PM

Pat, I have had my equinox for 3 years. I really like it and would love to keep it forever but am feeling the need for something bigger (mini van) so that the 6 of us can ride in one vehicle. Too bad I can't talk my DD into buying the bigger car.
Judy, I just read something about someone thinking for years she couldn't have dairy but is now trying cheese made from sheep's milk. The ricotta was super expensive so she opted for the feta. You might want to give that a try. And thanks for the idea of ordering pills from Amazon. For some reason I only think about it for household items and gifts.
Today I went to the quilt show in Madison. Was that fun!! I haven't opened my bag to see all that I bought. Have to wait for company to leave. I really, really, really wanted to buy a chair for my sewing room but they are almost $500. If someone had not already bought her floor model I had my mind made up to buy it. Oh well.

Jan in FL 09-13-2015 02:34 PM

All of you are doing so well. I am afraid I have been derailed so far this month but will start again tomorrow!

Leann 09-14-2015 05:30 AM

Jan, not everyone is doing well, but we will, won't we? My discipline is zilch! I said a silent prayer of thanks last night as DH wanted a half price Sonic shake, but that promo is over. yeah!

The month is half over - obviously I just wanna contribute fabric to someone that will work for it!

Today is the start of a new week. To attack this in a 'Judy-way' - I AM in control. I AM making the food choices that take me to my goal. I AM losing weight.

Pam H 09-14-2015 07:33 AM

In this gal's blog she describes what is meant by 80/20 clean eating. This is helpful to me because I always think you have to do things 100% which has stopped me from doing/trying a lot of things.

Leann 09-14-2015 03:26 PM

Pam, thank for the link. I found it interesting. I'm pretty hard on myself sometimes. I really hate those times when I've blown it and give up for the rest of the day, which usually turns into weeks. I also have trouble getting back on course after a cheat day.

BUT, I am going to succeed at my weight loss goal because I'm crazy enough to believe I can!

Jim's Gem 09-14-2015 05:25 PM

Oh Heavens, is it really the 14th already? Been busy with new grand and feeding my oldest daughters kids and DH (she's pregnant and not into eating or cooking)
I am in, I already have a FQ there, I believe.
I have been doing awful at eating! I keep saying I will do better.

Irishrose2 09-14-2015 06:26 PM

Lynne, you are ready for the next step. When I say "I am" my mind says, "Yeah, right." Now try, " Why am I losing weight?" That same mind will go to work like the computer it is and look for reasons why you are losing weight. 'I am' is better that 'I will'because it's not in the future, but turning into a question is much more effective.

Does anyone else have trouble with 'setpoint weight'? Post 38 years old, my weight has seemed like it had a mind of its own. The weight I want for now is 4 pounds less than I weigh now. I can force it down 2 pounds, but as soon as I turn around it sneaks back up, but doesn't go higher unless I really work at it which I did this summer. I appreciate the 7.5 pounds I lost in August, but the last four are stuck (again). And again and again.

I guess there is such a thing.

This is so timely for me Irishrose. I am being good 1200 calories but the weight seems stuck. I have about 15 more lbs to go.

meanmom 09-17-2015 01:58 PM

It has been busy here so I haven't posted. My DD was here from Florida. She flew in for several job interviews. She is in the process of moving back here. She had 4 job interviews on Friday and shadowed at 2 on MOnday. Tuesday she got 4 job offers. SHe immediatly eliminated 2 of them and finally accepted one. SHe is a nurse and took a job in a cardiac stepdown unit at a local hospital. She decided on it because they are going to start doing heart transplants and do several other cutting edge procedures. Very good job. I can't wait for her to move back.
I haven't had time to do any more about car shopping. The best time to buy is mid to late October as they mark down the 2015 cars to get rid of them. Eating had been ok, not awesome. Saturday will be tough as we are having a sewing day on Saturday, which means a potluck. Then I am going to a bridal shower. I also haven't been getting in much exercise. I guess all of the walking at school has saved me. 8900 steps at school today.

crafty-kid 09-17-2015 04:24 PM

Over 17K steps yesterday, but way less today....We had rain and I needed to get other things done today. Held strong with 10K today.

beckyw 09-17-2015 05:06 PM

Getting some walking in this week. Always so much to do and so little time to work on what we want to. Most of the time in the evening I don't do much

Leann 09-17-2015 06:29 PM

meanmom, I am thrilled that your DD is coming back. I would love to be close to my family. Maybe you could eat a big breakfast before your sewing group to help you maintain control over your lunch choices.

Teri, I can't imagine 17K+ steps. Most I've ever done was over 15k. I did go for a walk 'on purpose' last night. My best guess is my pace is a 25-30 minute mile. My physical therapist wants me to pick up my pace - I walk 'too carefully'.

My weight is finally back down to what it was Sept 1. I've ridden my bike twice this week - only 5 miles but in these hills, those 5 miles are hard. Monday I followed my bike ride with some serious PT - which was a big mistake. Today, no PT. I realized that I've been squatting too deep during my wall slides. I have wonderful flexibility - but the pain payoff is not worth it.

hugs!

Annaquilts 09-18-2015 08:56 AM

this recipe looks good to me. It is about 100 calories per serving and gluten free. If you do not like the dairy you will need to tweak it further but I need my cheese once in awhile. I try to keep my breakfast to under 200 calories and one of these muffins with a piece of fruit and some black coffee sounds good to me. I normally have yogurt but I am getting tired of that especially now the weather is getting cooler I enjoy a hot breakfast. This food also has appeal because of how it looks. that is important to me and makes me feel less deprived. this also looks like something everyone in the family would enjoy.
http://www.averiecooks.com/2014/05/1...g-muffins.html

meanmom 09-19-2015 04:07 AM

Anna the recipe looks good, I will have to try it. I would probably eliminate most of the cheese and eat 2. I tend to eat the same thing for breakfast for long periods of time then switch to something else for a long time. I love plain Greek yogurt with some fruit and a handful of Fiber One cereal stirred in. The fiber One is loaded with fiber and tastes a lot like granola or nuts to me in the yogurt. It isn't gluten free. I am currently on a smoothie kick for breakfast and have been for months, but I am starting to get tired of them.
Heading to my quilt guild sewing day, then a bridal shower. I plan to go for a bike ride when I get home. Hopefully I will follow thru on that. It is going to be a beautiful day here. Hopefully the weather man is right snd the rain is going to go around us.

beckyw 09-20-2015 04:55 AM

Didn't lose any weight this last week. This week hope to be better.

meanmom 09-20-2015 06:10 AM

I guess I have to vent here because I'm not sure what to do. My neighbor has started smoking the last year or so. He smokes quite a bit since he retired. He isn't allowed to smoke in the house so he smokes on their front porch. We have our windows open (they never open theirs) and the smoke comes right in our front window, I can smell it on my clothes. They are really nice and I don't want to start any trouble, not sure if I should talk to them or not.
I behaved myself at the quilting day and the shower as the food was boring. I did have a cupcake at the shower, my nephew went to culinary school and he made them. It will be a cheat day but not too bad.

Pam H 09-20-2015 11:20 AM

Anna, I pinned that recipe so I can make them sometime. They look good!
Pat, I think you should talk to the neighbor about the smoke. He might not even realize it is going in your house. If you don't feel comfortable talking to him, maybe you could run a fan facing toward the window and blow the smoke back to him.
Now for some news with my family. I already told you my son is getting married 10/10 in China. My daughter's visa to France was denied so now she and her fiance have decided to get married earlier than planned. The date is 10/17. We will be home from China for 3 days and then fly to France. Ugh. I hate to even think about it. So much rearranging of schedules has to happen for this to work. It makes me tired just thinking about it.

pyffer3 09-20-2015 12:12 PM

I'm just seeing this thread and will be watching. I don't have a scale any more because I got so obsessed a few years back that I was weighing myself several times a day. I know I'm overweight but not huge. I got one of those fit bits it's from an Amazon card one of my kids gave me and it has given me incentive, not to mention the gallbladder surgery in June! I have gone from literally 0 to averaging 7000 steps per day. I mean 0 as I spent only the energy it took to go to work and come home each day. I know that's not a lot when I read some of you doing 15000 +, but trust me it's a lot for me!
