Do you prefer one term opposed to the other when describing someone who sews, or is there a better term?
I guess mine would be “Sewist”. CD in Oklahoma |
I don't think I ever heard the term Sewist used. It does not appear to be in dictionary.
O.K. Sewer appears to be a word found in dictionary. –noun a person or thing that sews. I refer to myself as a quilter as I don't want to do other's mending. Just had someone ask me to whip up a skirt & blouse with some fabric her hubby brought from China. |
Seamstress- sews clothing
quilter- duh! Oh heres one I just made up Textile Technician. |
Neither. If I used one of these everybody would think I could do their mending :)
I prefer 'quilter'....... |

Yup. I am a Quilter.
I am a "sewer" only when I want to do something for my immediate family, such as when I scowl at a waistline of the new shorts or skirt I bought for my daughters, because I want them to look nice and tailoring that single piece of clothing makes it look so much more attractive. Otherwise, I am not interested in "sewing" much of the time. |
How about quilt engineer? With all the math we use, the degree of accuracy in cutting, and the closeness in sewing, it seems appropriate.

I'm a Fabric Artist (quilter) I love it when you tell someone what you do and then they ask you to hem their pants..duh..did they miss something ???
