The wall to wall carpeting is throughout the house,except for the kitchen and bathrooms. I thought of putting a large tarp over it and using the sets of drawers and sewing table to hold it in place. But maybe they make that heavy clear plastic in a wider size than 6'. I'll have to check Lowe's or Home Depot, that might work. The only place there would be pins is by my sewing machines or by the chair where I would want to do hand sewing. Oh I want a design wall so that would probably have some pins too. Darn.

If I could find the heavy plastic stuff 12' wide, I could just cover the whole room. It's about 24 x 12 or 13.

What would you call those plastic runners that you use over carpet, I wonder how wide they come.

I always wear rubber soled slippers in the house, I have cats and don't like the idea of getting up in the middle of the night and finding I've walked in someones hairball so I am in the habit of having slippers on at all times.

What about linoleum, could I lay a roll of that down??? Would it work. That could be cut to size.

Don't know about laying anything over the carpet. Is it low, high or medium pile? Had another visual about laying down linoleum...but too crazy...something to do with mowing. What did someone slip into my breakfast???

LOL, oh how I know that feeling yuck! I have carpeting in my sewing room it is also a guest room. I use nothing but large size pins, like the ones with plastic yellow ball on the end. They are easy to spot in the carpet.

I really do not drop that many pins. to pick up threads we just had a great tip to get a brand new toilet brush and brush up the threads before vaccuuming. I really do not find a carpeted surface in my sewing room that distracting. I would find linoleum layed out over the carpet more so. If it were me and I wanted to spend $$ on other house stuff I would live with the carpet until I had the $$ to spend to redo the floor in the room. It has worked fine for me and many others. Yes smooth flooring like wood or laminate is easier but carpet isn't so bad.

I suppose I want to decide what to do before I move furniture into that room, it'd be a lot easier to decide on stuff now then later. It seems like a pretty low pile carpet. Maybe I can live with it. The color is neutral so it will get along fine with the pale yellow I hope to paint the sewing room. It's white right now, so that might stay that way too and I might just paint the end where I won't be selecting fabrics. I have to wait to get another look at it. It's a double room, the wall was taken out at some point.

All my pins have colored heads on them. I can't remember ever dropping a needle, though I do have tendency to stick them into wherever I happen to be sitting.

If you're considering covering it with a yardgood vinyl, then do the job right and take it up, then put down the vinyl.

Otherwise, if you're wearing slippers all the time, will it really be an issue if you miss picking up a pin?

I have carpeting in my sewing area, and to be honest, I like the warmth and comfort it provides. Much easier when standing at the ironing board or cutting fabric.

Ok,I guess I might as well stick with the carpet and buy an extra toilet brush.

My advice as well. I have vinyl in my sewing room.

Since the carpet is almost new then taking it up is not a good solution. Love the idea of a new toilet brush to get up threads. Beats having to turn the vac upside down to remove all the thread wrapped around the roller.

Go to Home Depot and get a real big magnet. Then somehow put a carrier around it made from a pair of old panty hose. That way you can pick up pins and be able to get them off easily. The one I have from DH's workshop is powerful and came in a canvas carrier. And of course I'll NEVER put it near any computers or electronic sewing machines.
