Sewing as a side business

I have been toying with the idea of starting a little Etsy shop and selling some of my quilts. Have any of you done this before? Has it been financially beneficial? If you sell your quilts, where do you sell them? Thanks!

my landlady tried to sell her quilts to supplement the early retirement she had to take when her factory closed. She couldn't do it with quilts alone. She does simple alterations like hemming pants and skirts. also she makes costumes prom dresses and anything else people want as long as they bring the pattern, fabric and thread. She didn't make anything until she started making them bring what was needed.
