Has anyone had the Shark Floor Steamer? This is my third in 2 years. THey are only lasting me 4-6 months and that is using it once a week or less. I have someone come in and wash my floors for me and she got one when I got my first and she is still using hers. I have only used filtered water. What gives with the shark products. This steamer is quite light so that I can use it when I have to. THis just sucks!!!!! My last one died yesterday and only 5 months old.

There is a difference between filtered water and distilled water... could this be the problem? :D:D:D

Returned my Shark iron last week after only 2 weeks-leaked terribly. I won't buy Shark anything again. I was wanting the floor steamer (I HATE my Swifter!), now I'll look for something else. I am going to check with Consumer Reports for ratings.

I bought a Shark, and returned it within 45 min. I tried to clean my kitchen floor, and steamed one section for nearly 10 minutes! I would love to have it work; it just didn't.

You might want to look for a different brand of floor steamer; there are tons. Start with Amazon and see what the comments are on them. They come in many different levels of quality in terms of how much moisture is in the steam, what the pressure is, etc.

That is what I do now - when I bought my sewing machine and researching irons too. Good prices most of the time and no sales tax or shipping!

I've been using my Shark cleaner for about a year on my porcelain tile floor & it does a great job. I even use regular tap water, but make sure to empty it after each use.

raedar63 12-18-2010 01:43 PM

I usually mop the "old fashioned way" first then use the shark, I do not think they will hold up for real heavy duty cleaning. I LOVE how clean my floor feels after I use mine.

After doing lots of research on the steam cleaners I bought a Bissel. It is great. Good luch on your next purchas.

emc1118 12-18-2010 02:23 PM

My daughter returned three shark steamers. I think she fianlly went to another brand.

SherriB 12-18-2010 02:27 PM

I tried the steam mop and didn't have any luck with it either. I used whatever water was recommend (can't remember now) and still had very poor results. I sold mine.

kristen0112 12-18-2010 02:27 PM

What a bummer. I love my Shark products. Maybe u just got a few lemons. I have had the same steam cleaner for a couple of years. I did get a lemon iron it only lasted a month but I returned and got another and it works great and have had it for almost a year. (I don't use anything but tap water)

hperttula123 12-18-2010 02:49 PM

I have a shark and I have for over a year now. I've never had a problem with it. I think if you get a new one to try only using distilled water in it.

KathyAire 12-18-2010 02:51 PM

I have a Shark steam mop and love it. I first bought the Oreck and didn't like it, but didn't take it back. Now, I have two of them. I like the Shark a lot.

nativetexan 12-18-2010 03:47 PM

has anyone complained to the company? I would.

They have been around forever, too-My Mom had Bissell products and as I recall, they were fine-mind you, back then they make goods to last-not like today! I will look into that one.

patsyo56721 12-19-2010 05:21 AM

watterstide 12-19-2010 05:50 AM

i think mine is a Haan? yellow, got it on QVC, i love it.

Theresa 12-19-2010 06:15 AM

Purchased a Shark iron and it lasted only 3 months. Knowing what happened to you, am staying away from that brand forever.

Enchanted Quilter 12-19-2010 06:35 AM

I have the shark canister now for 3yrs its works Great no problems I bought one for my daughter 2 yrs ago she swears by it. New to this So Hi from porter Okla.

janie3954 12-19-2010 07:42 AM

I have a Haan, I love it.

LindaR 12-19-2010 09:06 AM

I almost got my DD one for christmas but changed my mind, glad I did...LOL

Stitchalong 12-19-2010 10:21 AM

I have the Shark floor steamer and I love mine. I use tap water, but I always empty all water when finished and I leave the top off so no moister remains in the container. Not sure any of this makes a difference, but mine is holding up to ware.

BellaBoo 12-19-2010 10:26 AM

My DD bought two of the Shark Steam mops for $36 on Black Friday. She uses hers almost every day with four kids, pets and all ceramic tile floors. She does not baby it at all. I use mine about once a week. So far no problems with either one. We bought use tap water. For $36 it has performed much better then I expected.

cafegold2 12-19-2010 12:01 PM

I use mine on the old floors at a summer place. I started spraying 409 in soiled corners etc. It helped but would never use it year round.

memephyl 12-19-2010 12:42 PM

Had my shark steamer for floors over a year and love it. Also have the shark portable steamer for counters etc. Not as thrilled with that, but they both are lighter and easier to use than the Europro that I have had for years but have to keep changing nozzles etc and I have trouble doing that as my hands are not strong and DH passed.

toodie11 12-19-2010 05:02 PM

I have had the Shark Euro pro x for about 2 years and use at least once a week, and it has done a great job for me. I use
on laminate and and drain after every use I use distilled or Tap and both work fine.

shrabar 12-19-2010 07:13 PM

Something tells me that the condition of your local water has a part to play in this...whether you can use tap water or not..

I don't. I'm certainly not going to buy better water for a mop then I drink.
