Sharpening Rotory Blades
 

I read somewhere that you can sharpen your rotory blades by folding some heavy duty foil about nine times and then running your rotory blades back and forth until they are sharp gain. My friend uses the same method on her dressmaking scissors, she just cuts the foil a few times until the scissors become sharp.

Has anyone heard or tried this, nothing to loose if your blades are no longer sharp!

I can't believe this would work on rotary blades. I can understand how it *might* help scissors blades because the foil would rub against each side of the two blades.

i have seen this tip posted before... i think members say it works but the blade doesn't stay sharp very long

I do it all the time. It works for a little while as long as you don't have any nicks.

I've used this method and found it will work. Admittedly it won't stay sharp forever but it has got me through to having all pieces cut for the project I've been working on at the time.

I don't sharpen my rotary blades, if the blade doesn't cut like new, I put in a new blade. I have used the Grace sharpener and it does a great job of keeping the blade sharp a long time but it won't sharpen a dull blade. Most won't. You have to sharpen a sharp blade to keep it sharp. Like the guys who whit their knives constantly, to keep them sharp.

I just buy more blades. I have tried the sharpener Nancy Ziemen demoe'd and sent mine back. I've tried other and the foil. Just easier for me to buy new and be done with it. I use the 60mm more than anything so I have a supply of those and got some for my 28 and 45mm. I use coupons when possible.

Same here. It is a good idea for a short use.

Cutting thru sandpaper also works.
