I live in central Ohio but my BFF lives in Toledo. We're trying to plan a short road trip for us and 2 others. We've heard of Shipshewa and was thinking of going but then we'd heard that there'd been a fire a year or so ago and the best shop was gone? Is that true?

I know it's not as big as Paducah (I'll get there too one of these days...) but we were hoping for a "cousin" of Paducah.

there's Lolly's and Yoder's...

Lolly's is a fabric store - spend two or three days in there LOL... make sure you go in the 'bargain' area downstairs - trust me on this...

Yoder's is a department store with a fabric department (which is bigger than most stores) - they have TONS of stuff (and markdown counters)
Those two places will keep you busy....

oh, and go to the Amish restaurant and get the butterscotch pie - it's to die for...

It is a trip you will love. Nothing like Paducah but an experience in and of it's own.

You made me laugh. When my DS, a trucker drove through this area and tried to pronounce that town, he screwed it royally. Sounds like some great LQS' there.

It is a really neat experience and if you stay in the area , either at the hotel or B&B you cannpt go wtong. It is not a quilt show unless you go during when they are advertising the quilt show :? ( Does that make sense ?) Lollys has many different shops in the big building, and of course the bargain area in the basement  , Yoders has a HUGE faabric area that reminds me of the older type stores. You might want to start at Yoders as they sometimes have better pricing ( ask me how I know  LOL) Also travel a bit and go to Das Essenhaus YUMMY. They also have a quilt shop on the premises  And I have heard of a couple more shops in the area , but have never been to them. You could easily spend a day in each shop

I met up with a couple quilting buddies....carrieg from here & another lady when we drove across the States. It was a fantastic place & would love to go back again some time. Apparently there is a quilt show soon, here's a link and maybe you could time your visit to include it?
