We are looking for things that others recommend. We could just drive through, or we could spend a few days. I'm looking for things that are worth stopping for. I have looked online, and it looks a little 'touristy', which we are not looking for.

If you just drive through, make it at lunch time... Look for the restaurant with a long line....they serve home pie with all lunch offerings. Too good to miss the wonderfully cooked meals. :)

PS oh, yes I did pick up a few FQ and enjoyed looking at their beautifully made quilts and hand made furniture.

The Menno-hof museum is good for learning about the religious culture of the area. For fabric, Lolly's downtown and Yoder's dept store plus about 10 miles south of Shipshewana is Zinck's Fabrics in Ligonier - prices can't be beat!
If you are going on Oct 2, the flea market is open all week, usually only open on Tuesday and Wednesdays.
We are camping in Shipshe that weekend. I can't wait!

Go to Yoder's ! Take plenty of money for the fabric section, and I mean plenty of money. They have a selection of solid colors that is second to none. They have sample quilts and plenty of other fabrics as well as patterns and notions. I love that store and will be there in October. I usually get to the flea market if it is open, but I go to Yoder's first. At least I think that is the name, I just love walking around such a beautiful store.

Food is great, fab stores good, and it had other offerings too......the little boutique stores with all sorts of things are fun to,wander thru....try not to just "drive thru"........ Take a buggy ride and enjoy the quaintness......it is a place I enjoy......arcola/Arthur Illinois is another settlement that is fun to spend time at.......but that's just me....
