I DO remember them very well - I'm 71. I HATED having to sit still while my mom wrapped my hair in those rags. I have just one picture of me with Shirley Temple curls. I guess it must have been worth it. Thank goodness that craze was over before I started school!

I used to do my daughters that way when she was little. I made rag strips about one inch wide by 14 inches. Lay the rag on your finger the long way then wrap the hair around your finger. After all the hair is wrapped slide your finger out and tie the rag. She would sleep on them and then we would gently unwrap in the morning and comb each one around my finger as I took the rag off.
Good luck. I'm looking for a picture of her but I think it is at the other house. (Story of my life). |

I am 62 and remember my mother being a hairdresser for about 4 years before she had me.
As far as the curls, I was tortured with the curlers. Everytime we had pictures, I couldn't sleep all night. I'll never understand why I had to have curls in my pictures, when I lost my natural curl at about three or so. And the ruffled panties/tights. HATED those! I vowed I'd never make my girls wear them, and they never have! |
