We (a few church friends) decided ro make bags for the christmas shoe boxes for Frankin Graham.
I was able to make 125 bags with donated material.
It is a good thing!

You didn't just make bags, you just made 125 people's day. You are a good person. God Bless.

I'm working on Shoe boxes also, whst kind of bags did you make?

sherian 09-25-2011 09:16 PM

I made fabric bags. They are about 15" mostly wide X 18" to 24" long. Handles 18" to 24" each. 18'" for a hand holding bag, and 24" shoulder bag. They are members who shop yard sales for fabric and others give fabric to us.
One put it on her friends e-mail and we really got alot of fabric.
Next time I would suggest no fabric that is to heavy, for
sewing machines, some fabric's were really hard to work with, some of us broke a few needles. It is a great project.
We made so many we are sending some to another church
will to help with the shipping charges.

Good morning - What a great idea - my church does the "shoe boxes" every year also. What type of bag did you make - little ones to fill w/small objects, or one to be the actual 'shoe box'?

Thanks - Have a blessed day

The bags will be put in our shoe boxes, some will be taken to warehouse by sharon who goes every year to help check & pack boxes. You could make any size fabric bags.
Bags are easy to make handles are more time taking.
A few we used a good study ribbon.

We made 35 snap bags to use as sewing kits. In each we will put 2 full bobbins of thread, about 20 safety pins, an assortment of sewing needles which will be held on black felt with a vinyl cover, & a small, good pair of sissors. These will be for the girl boxes. The boys will get small, good hammers. Every box (we do about 250) will get a new yellow tennis ball. Shoe boxes are a project we work on all year long. We love them!

We hope the bags will be used every day in general.
Going to get rice, items from maket( if there is one), personal items given to each. Mothers may use ther bags, some have smaller handles to carry and some have shoulder handles to carry.
As some have to walk a great distance for food and other
items given to them.
I would have loved to embroidery each with a saying;
Jesus loves you, or picture, however it is not possible with the number of bags made and cost. We went with more
usable bags.
