shops to visit help
I'm visiting Banff, Vancouver and taking an Alaskan Cruise at the end of May beginning of June, any suggestions for shops to visit and purchase fabric quilting goodies? Already increased my luggage allowance so got room for my purhcases, thanks folks.

Are you driving from Banff to Vancouver? There's a great shop in Canmore, Alberta thesugarpine.com
Are you spending any time in Vancouver? The only shop right down town is on Granville Island as far as I know. http://theclothshop.com/ If you will be driving and spending time in the area there are a few more shops I can recommend for you to visit. |
Hi Thimblebug, not driving, Rocky Mouantaineer from Banff to Vancouver but have 4 days after cruise in Vancouver and stayin at Westin.

Where on the cruise are you making port. I took an Alaskan cruise last summer with a group of quilters. I found a shop in every port except one and that was the day I wasn't feeling well.

Hi Donac, we will make port in Ketchakin, Skagway and Juneau, thanks

That was VERY clever of you to increase your luggage allowance. Hope you have fun.

I made the Alaska trip last September. There are quilt shops in Juneau and Skagway. Loved them both. The shop in Ketchican was for sale when I was there, but I hope it was purchased by someone and is still open. Beautiful fabrics and kits, all Alaska themed. I was sick in Juneau, so missed that shop.

All of those Alaskan stops have quilt shops in them.

I had some fabric shipped home from skagway. They were packing the boxes as soon as you checked out. It was there waiting for me when I got home. The rest I put into my carry on. I do know someone who went way over the weight limit.
The fabric just have a very Alaskan flair. I bought pillowcases with wolves on them. Dh picked them out while I was looking over the store. |
That is going to be a wonderful trip, enjoy!

There are shops in all of those ports. all were wonderful. When we cruised to Alaska, we shipped all our purchases home. That way, we didn't have to worry about so much heavy luggage mess with or the extra luggage fees. the quilt shops will ship them out for you. Have a great trip.

The shop that hosts a yearly retreat I attend is in Ladner, which is a fun little area to visit. http://quiltedbear.ca/
IF you want to drive an hour east there is Hamel's in Chilliwack http://hamelsfabrics.com/ Langley and Abbotsford both have a shop owned by the same company http://www.agreatnotion.com/ Coquitlam has http://www.quiltedtreasures.ca/ there may be a few I've missed, BUT if you are wanting to walk I think the only shop IN Vancouver is the one on Granville Island, called the Cloth Shop which I posted a link to before. I don't belong to the guilds but they have an active Modern Guild http://vancouvermodernquiltguild.ca/blog/ and a few other guilds http://www.vancouverquiltersguild.com/ I'm actually an hour out of Vancouver but I know those 2 guilds show contact people on their link and they could give you more info for sure. Have a wonderful trip! |
