Looks beautiful!

Sandygirl 06-15-2014 02:11 AM

Not after seeing yours! LOL! Beautiful!

the harsh winter killed my grasses and chickens. (Chickens In the container...not clucking ones.) i am disappointed that my pretty grasses did not survive. They had multiplied and were pretty. They were 4 years old. Sigh.

Seems a lot of us lost our gardens due to the harsh winter we had. I'm in Iowa and lost most all my knock-out roses, specialty roses, mums, everything I planted last Fall (tulip, daffodil, bulbs) and blackberry bushes. Just transplanting what did survive to fill in the holes that didn't survive. And what the critters didn't eat during the winter to survive, I'm lucky to have anything left. Ate one of my clematis to the ground but she came back up. Planted another one but seems a rabbit liked it more so its gone already. Had to installed fencing around all my raised beds to keep at least the rabbits out though the squirrels are still getting in by climbing over the fencing. Even pulled up my newly planted onions and strawberries. And I feed them toasted bread and bird seed all winter long and summer too. Ungrateful critters.

I am so happy that my plumeria is still alive and growing. I grew it from a cutting. No flowers yet. But my fig tree has lots of figs and my persimmon tree has three baby persimmons. Yay! I love pretty gardens but I'm not that great at growing things. My mom was the gardener in the family. She always had beautiful flowers.

Beautiful gardens.

I will have to see if I can transfer photos from my iPhone to the board in order to show mine. I am in love with all of our flowers.

I love seeing everyone's gardens. We have two small backyard ponds connected by a stream. These pictures were taken last summer.

Jingle 06-16-2014 01:29 PM

My iris finished blooming a while back and lilies are almost done. Starting to get hot this week.

Living in the desert there's not much to show. My husband made me this box and bolted it to a tree stump. I made a fairy garden.

I have a veggie/flower garden. Veggies are still pretty small due to the late spring, but hopefully I be able to harvest some veggies in August. If I can keep the deer out. I didn't loose one flower despite the -30 temps last winter. Guess I have the deep snow to thank for that. Not much blooming yet,but they are growing good.

irishrose 06-17-2014 04:21 AM

Too early here for much to be blooming. I lost a Rose of Sharon tree and one newly planted Knockout rose. Two other Knockouts appeared dead, but are sprouting new growth.

Don't write that Elsa Spath clematis off, Mine 'died' but I didn't throw it away. I put the roots in a big pot in an out of the way spot. It appeared dead all one season and started growing the next. Now it's almost back to its former glory.

Fifee 06-17-2014 05:04 AM

Completely jealous of your lovely gardens! We have inherited a run down, overgrown weed infested garden from my partners late father. Its one of those things where you look in one direction and think "hey, we're doing ok" and then you turn and look the other way and your heart sinks lol

I tried growing things from seed and it was either too cold or we didnt water enough or we over watered, none of them came up. Its now warm enough to plant the seeds outside, so we have borage and sweet peas growing but the slugs love them so I think beer traps are in order! All I'm asking for is a nice cottage type garden with the bees buzzing about and the birds chirping away ... not gonna happen this year at least :(

I am happy to share some of my garden photos from this year. I have a lot of shade and things are blooming late. The deer 'pruned' all the blooms off my rhodeys. :(
The roses are just budding up so I will have blooms in a while. I had a lot of dieback but looks like they all survived.

Nancy in Louisiana 06-17-2014 10:18 AM

I am so jealous! Down here if the heat and poor soil don't kill the flowers, then the bugs and squirrels take care of them. The only thing that grows are four o'clocks -- plant them once and you have them for life...everywhere but where you want them.

Beautiful gardens, everyone. Makes me yearn to go back to the north.

meanmom 06-17-2014 05:29 PM

Beautiful gardens everyone. We lost quite a bit this winter to the harsh weather too. We lost several knock out roses and nearly all of our asparagus. I care more about the asparagus than anything. Our patch was doing really well. We should have been getting about a pound every other day. Then we got a late snow and it took care of a lot that wasn't killed by the extreme cold of the winter. Some of it is coming back some not. I love asparagus.
