Shower Curtains
I'm wondering if anyone has made a shower curtain - the outside part, not the lining of course.
I am making one that the squares are 12" square, just sewing them either 6 wide x 7 long, or 7 wide x 6 long, haven't decided which, but am leaning towards 6 wide. I'm doing raw edge applique with 3 hearts, small-medium-large sewn on top of each other, with about a 1/4" seam so the sides of the hearts fray. The background fabric - half are black with white polka dots, half is pink with white polka dots, and I'm alternating the squares when sewing it together. The squares have the hearts sewn on them, now I just need to sew it all together. Has anyone made a shower curtain? How did it work out? Would love to see pics... |
I've made two. The first one I did on the serger just to see if I could piece on the serger. The second one was just large pieces to highlight my son's favorite basketball team. And I made a bathmat to match. They both worked out very well.

My sister made one. She used button holes instead of grommets & then just a clear liner. She also serged hers.

I made one but used one sold pc of fabric. Used button holes at top to put the hooks thru. Plan to make another one soon as this was a while back.

Your shower curtain sounds wonderful. I made one a few years ago. I offset the blocks, and once I got the 'top' pieced, I realized that I needed to cover the seams on the back, so I just layered it like a quilt, but with no batting. Then I just stitched in the ditch between each block.
Here is my post with a picture. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...in-t90920.html |
Well I made one out of decorator fabric. I can't find a photo though. I put button holes in the top for the hangers. also made a valance to go over it out of decorator fabric with embroidered bees on it. I have a plastic liner to keep the water off of course.

I am also thinking of making a shower curtain. I have shopped 3 months and haven't found anything I like. I was thinking of doing a D9P. Would it be best to serge the seams???

My current one is purchased. But in past made my own out of sheets. Just trimmed them down. Started out with twin sheets. used grommets.

I have a pattern for one in a Thimbleberries quilt book, thought of making it a quilt. We have glass doors, so don't need one.

I've been toying with the idea of making one. So far the thought process is use strips and go the one hour quilt route - back with muslin, no batting- and practice fmq sort of modern quilt style. I was worried it might be a bit thick but from the comments above, it sounds like I should be okay.
