Sites to help me downsize ...
 

I am thinking of selling my midarrm/longarm as a result of downsizing, rather than attempt to move it across the country. I expect to move near my grown children. I don't expect to have the room I have now in a new to me home. Hopefully this is not immediate. I am strictly in an investigative process right now.

However, any advice on selling this would be welcome. I have never used Craig's List. My daughter in law uses Facebook sales, whatever that is.

If I weren't so embarrassed, I would post a picture of my almost empty studio and my crammed living room as I go through this process. The piles of what gets donated where is amazing. If I haven't used it or it doesn't have a purpose or use, it has to go somewhere else. A quilting buddy is going to help me sort through the stash. I think I'll wait on going through the books for just a bit yet as they will probably be the easiest to do.

I belong to a group on Facebook called Quilters Classifieds. I have bought from people on there with no problems.

There is a Quilters' Classified group on Facebook. That's where I found my new-to-me longarm. I sent the seller a PM (private message) just hours after she posted it, went to her house to do a test drive, and made the deal within a few days. Just be sure to list your city/state if you post, to eliminate inquiries from people that aren't local (if you're not willing to ship). On the other hand, I've also seen some listed on Craigs List. Understand that on such a large purchase, that someone may want to do a test drive. Have a friend with you if a potential buyer wants to come to your house.

I just listed a washer and dryer on craigslist and sold it within a few hours. I would definitely list it there.

Be careful with Craig's list, or any site really, that asks you to return money or wants your account number, even on paypal, etc. I had a lot of trouble on Craig's list recently and I was warned by Craig's list.

I would let quilt guilds within a 100 mile radius know that you are selling your machine. You need to target the audience likely to be interested in it. Lots of Guilds communicate via email, newsletters and Yahoo! Groups. Also their Facebook page. Just ask them to share your phone number or a special email address you set up just for this. No home address should be posted. My 2 cents. Be safe.

I also would contact your LQS and quilt guilds because there might be a connection that is much safer than Craig's list.

Contact a quilt guild. Or put an ad in a local newspaper or shopper.

If you need a warm body to stand by while someone comes to look, holler.
