Is anyone else bothered with this? I have had dry eyes for several years and use Restasis. For the past month my mouth has been so dry. I have started using Biotene toothpaste. I have the worst taste in my mouth, I am sure my breathe is not minty fresh. I have been chewing gum alot recently and I hate chewing gum.

I know that Sjogren's is an autoimmune disorder, this is not the only immune issue I have.

I am curious to see what others use to help with this disorder.

Thanks,
JulieM

There is an article today in Dr. Gott's column on dry eyes. I live in OK and he appears daily in The Tulsa World Newspaper here. You could look up his column today, Jan 20, 2011 and read what he has to say about dry eyes.

My mother in law suffers with that.
She definately has an issue with dry eyes, she also has lost most of her taste and smell.

There is a prescription mouth rinse that helps with dry mouth, but I don't know the name of it.

My mom has Sjogrens. It sucks. She's having all kinds of issues with her liver on top of it. Her dry skin bothers her the most, and lotions just don't seem to help.
She's going to get help from Mayo Clinic in the spring. She doesn't know what to think of her doc now. He told her that there are at least 5 docs at the University Hospitals that don't agree with the way he treats Sjogrens. We're not sure if that is good or bad.
Mayo's opinion might help her more. I hope it does.
Good luck!

She's having all kinds of issues with her liver on top of it.
------------------------
About the liver problem, my sister was having to have blood tests every year, then every 6 months and then 3 months, but suddenly her liver panel came back clean. The doctor sat her down and wanted to know everything she ate and all supplements. But the only thing different was she had suddenly decided to totally eliminate Aspartame from her diet. No diet sweeteners at all. The doctor didn't seem surprised, said that it had been implicated in Autistic births, MS and a lot of other diseases.
What made my sister so mad was this was supposed to be a liver specialist, so why on earth didn't he think to mention such a thing?
Sister still feels good, and is==um==well over 70!!

That's really interesting. My mom drinks a ton of diet pop and uses aspartame more because my dad is diabetic. I'll have to suggest that to her. Thanks.

Coming from a dental background, Biotene has a mouthwash that is great for dry mouth. Be sure to go to your dentist on whatever regular basis is indicated. Also, discuss your situation with him/her and there might be some other suggestions that can help.

My 89 year old mother has had this for years. She now takes Evoxac, a prescription, that has helped her tremendously. There are 2-3 prescriptions to treat dry mouth, but this one has worked the best. Before she was prescribed this med, sucked on hard candies which was not good for her teeth. She also bought from Amazon, SalivaSure 90 Lozenges, which helped somewhat. It did produce some saliva. But, by far, Evoxac has helped the most. Her mouth is never dry anymore.

Also, her eye doctor has her wash her eyes everyday with baby shampoo because she has gotten eye infections due to lack of tears. And, he plugged up her tear ducts so what tears she did produce did not get drained away. She also puts GenTeal Eye Lubricant in her eyes because it lasts longer than regular eye drops.

I hope any of this helps. The Evoxac, baby shampoo, and GenTeal Eye Lubricant has made life so much better for my mother.

BTW, she has tried some of those mouth rinses and they did not help. But, what does not work for one may work for another. Good luck.
