skinny arms
 

went shopping for a jacket/coat and tried on many sizes trying to find one that my normal sized arms would fit into. jackets, long sleeved tops etc all the same, made with skinny arms you can't get into or bend your arm. very frustrating.:thumbdown:

I noticed men's suits are extremely skinny again. as in the 60's. they look uncomfortable and make men look even tinier than they may want! my arms are long and sleeves don't always fit as I would like. now, tight too? sigh.

I've noticed this also. Was discussing this with friends, and we couldn't decide if this a new style, or an attempt on the manufacturers' part to save a bit of fabric. Perhaps as fabric has gotten narrower the pattern pieces also need to be narrower!

I have also found this when shopping for clothes. I have skinny arms and they don't even feel comfortable on me and it seems like what they took up in the arms they put on the end of the sleeve.

Not only are the arms skinnier than they used to be, but have you also noticed that the sleeve lengths are longer but the bodice of anything is much shorter than before?

I'm glad to hear that my arms may not be as fat as I thought! I have noticed the skinny arm trend, but just thought I was fat. But even as I tried to get a larger size, the body got too big, but the arms STILL were too small. While I know I'm gaining weight, I couldn't imagine my arms were so outsize as to not even fit in the larger sizes! Interesting trend.

I even found that on an LL Bean shirt. I was so totally surprised when I tried that on. And very disappointed. I know my arms are on the larger side but by no means fat.

Every now and then, new measurements are taken of the population so that generational changes can be made to clothing sizes. The last one I can recall was perhaps 10+ years ago and the one before that was done in 1925. Perhaps there needs to be another? From memory, I think Australians were, on average, shorter and had wider hips than the English and Americans. It was suggested that the food we eat has some influence on these trends. In any case, it would be nice to get clothes that fit!

Who are they measuring? I thought the US was supposed to have some of the most obese people in the world. The clothes should be getting bigger not smaller.lol

It is funny to have skinny arms when most of the clothing is still made mid-rise (never touches the waist) and shoes wider, etc. Maybe we are getting skinny and didn't know it! or people moving here are.
