Hey does anyone out there use Skype??? I've just recently got myself set up on it. I have the web cam and I found a mic today. I have mine set up here in my sewing room so I can gab and sew at the same time LOL

Yep, We don't have long distance here at our house, so we actually purchase a monthly plan so we can call land lines and cells. It is about $4.00 month, but we upgraded to international for $10 so we can talk to our daughter in New Zealand. We still use computer to computer sometimes so we can use the webcam. I also use it in my home office to contact clients as they are all long distance for me. In fact hubby just got a Skype phone so I can be anywhere in the house and use it, don't have to be tethered to the computer - of course computer has to be on ;-) It really is awesome!

We don't have the skype phone, but we might look into it. For now I just use computer to computer...I chat with my good friend in New Zealand with it and its awesome!

No but I am thinking about it, especially since I have adopted a newbie in UK.

I talk to my daughter every day for at least an hour. we love it. Before we had web cams we just typed and it was excellent. I lookk forward to our daily conversation.

My daughters live nearby and we still Skype!! I love it. One of them will be sewing something cute and want to show me, or will have a question, so we get on Skype and can share right then and there. My mom is on Skype too and it is fun to chat with her there.

Does Skype slow down your computer? I would love to get it, but I heard it takes a lot of memory. I have an older PC with no plans on getting a new one, and can't afford to be any slower than I am now.

We have it on DH 's PC and son has it on his PC in his rig but have not begun to use it yet.

Yes, we use it with the webcam to visit our daughter, son-in-law and grandson in NC. We're in CA. I was worried our little grandson wouldn't know me when I got back there to visit, so we started using it. He recognizes us when we get on, throwing kisses and waving (he's 19 months). I am very happy with the quality of the picture and sound. It needs a good connection, though, so it needs to be DSL or other fast connection.

It will explain itself when you start the program. Use the Video Call button to start it. You'll have to put your family/friends in as contacts, and they have to sign up too and give you their contact name. It's not hard. You can do it!!

Does it cost anything for skyping? How do you sign up for skyping?

nursie76 03-07-2010 11:05 AM

It is free to use skype with a mic and webcam if desired to communicate computer to computer. It is free computer to computer. If you desire to use computer to cell or landline, it is about $4 monthly basically unlimited (10,000 minutes monthlyy). You just go to the skype website and you can find out anything you want to know. If I can do it, anyone can! good luck.

I have it downloaded on my mini laptop. Finally used it today and talked to the grandbabies! Loved seeing them. Donny had them singing along with him, it was just too cute!
