What can you tell me about snaps? I want to add them to my next tote, rather than using a button. The only thing I know is that I don't want to use the sew-on kind.

I have the KAM snap pliers that I use on baby items I make. i really like it. As long as I remember to use the right size die for the snap I have no trouble. not sure if they would be strong enough for us on a tote. I have used them on wonder wallets in place of the velcro

There are magnetic snap closures made specifically for bags and totes. They are made by Clover and come in a little kit about $3.00. I've used them and they work great !!! You just put them in the lining before sewing the bag/tote together. Hope this helps. Pat

l also add a small square of med/heavy weight interfacing to help keep the snap from working through the fabric with use. if you don't have that, you could add a folded scrap piece of fabric. HTH ~

Snaps are very easy to insert...no sewing required. Here is a link to a site that explains everything. I have their snap setter...works great.

If you want to try a magnetic closure, here is a link.

Does the snap setter work with any snap? Or does it have to be their snaps?

I think the Snapsetter works with any snaps if they are the correct size. My Snapsetter is for Size 16 snaps. Here are some pictures.

I use the magnetic one on all my purses and tote. I pick them up at Joanns. You need to reinforce the area, were the snap is going to be appplied. I put a piece of heavy interfacing behind that area. They're very easy to use.

Yes magnetic snaps work great! I was only thinking of clothing snaps when she mentioned sew-in ones. i've found them a Joanns, too. If you make a lot of purses you can get them in bulk on ebay really cheap.
