So far it works!!

There was a dairy across the street from the housing tract we live in until a few years ago. The cows went, but the flies stayed. They perch on the outside of my screen door and as soon as it is opened, in they come, along with those flour moths. I put bay leaves in my cupboards, and glued some leaves on the backside of the cabinet doors. That seemed to keep the moths under control. I found some netting I had purchased for something long ago and had the idea to put bay leaves in the netting, tie in a ball with some long string and hang it on the outside of the door. It dangles back and forth as the slider screen is opened and closed, which I think emits some of the odor. Anyway, today, I have not seen any flies on the screen!! And I haven't seen any flour moths either! Keeping my fingers crossed.

I have two bay laurel trees, each in a large pot. I wonder if I put them on the patio, near the back door, would they keep flies and mosquitos from coming in the house. What do you think?

Do not need anything like that. My cats think they are snacks. Saves on cat food.

Bay leaves spread around also repel mice and much less harmful to pets and children then commercial products.
Planting basil outside your doors also repels flies and mosquitoes .... as does marigolds.
Isn't it interesting that common herbs can do the job so well?

I keep a bay leaf or two in my flour containers for that very reason. Had flour overrun with bugs once but not since I started doing this. Good that you are passing this information along to others.
