I have the same problem if I read for any length of time. So I read a few minutes and take a break. You may need to take frequent short breaks, and how well is your sewing area lit?

I noticed changes in my eyesight around the age of 35. Luckily mine is the up close vision & can wear one contact to correct it. My distance vision is still good, for now!

Noticed you are from St. Louis. I use to live in Collinsville until 13 yrs ago when we move to Carlyle. You have so many good quilt shops out your way

There are several nice shops within 30 min. from where I live. My good friend of 40 years just this year opened a quilt retreat in Beaufort MO and that is what got me interested in quilting again.I am really enjoying myself. Just hope this eye problem doesn't force me out.

I have special glasses for the computer since I use a computer at work. I haven't tried them for sewing. I haven't notice a problem at the machine, but I take breaks every hour. For hand work I use the drug store magnifying glasses. I just got new glasses and I still can't thread the needle without the magnifiers. So I'm always changing glasses depending on what I am doing.

i know what you mean. i swear some of the machine needles i have dont have any holes in them!!

I need to change my focal distance regularly. Look at laptop, look at TV, look at quilt, look outside. Anytime I look at something close for too long, I have trouble changing my long distance focus. For now I use the laptop without my trifocals, When I get up and I put my glasses on I can see. Need to make an appointment.

Sorry to hear about your eyes. Sounds like you have gotten really good suggestions already. I just want to say what a wonderful DH you have!!! You are very lucky. :D

My husband picked up a pair of glasses at Wal Mart for just the computer. He had been to the eye Dr. and had his cataracts done and because he has one eye that is called a lazy eye so he still needs glasses for the computer. he's always worn glasses and finds it hard not to have to wear some. Maybe you can try that. It's amazing what working on something for hrs can do to us. Maybe try taking a break 10 min every hr. this comes to you from me you the hand dr. tells me to do that and I don't even realize the hr is gone until I can't move my hand and have to go back to the dr. Good luck. Sue
