So what do you think?

Just watched last episode of downton......I'm thinking when all is said and done Mary will end up with her widowed brother-in-law? They seem to be drawing closer......

Pollytink 02-01-2016 03:03 PM

Interesting idea! I don't think, tho, that Mary would think he was good enough for her! I'm glad that Edith has a nice prospect. And I sure hope that the Bates' baby comes through ok!

dluvs2quilt 02-01-2016 03:31 PM

I was the thinking the same thing.

I am going to really miss this show. Mary made a comment to Tom about not "marrying down" and that made me wonder if a zinger would come later with them hooking up. I just can't see her with the race car driver.

Yes she did say that, but his answer to her statement was spot on...maybe she will realize that her "way of thinking" is no longer the norm in their world. Oh, who knows, just a thought I had. I did have to giggle when Carson commented to Cook about helping his wife "brush up" on her kitchen skills...honeymoon over!

quiltsRfun 02-01-2016 08:19 PM

Interesting speculations. I've already seen the whole thing and I'm not saying a word.

Karamarie 02-02-2016 05:43 AM

Does anyone know if there is or will be a set of DVDs of the whole series put out?

this is is such a golden money maker, I can't imagine it not being made available.

War & Peace

Never having read the book...I'm watching the series.....not being "sucked" into it, like DA, Poldark, outlander...maybe I should tackle the book...I do have it on my bookshelf, I do dust it yearly......just watched 1 & 2, going to try to watch 3 today...thank goodness for OnDemand.......

anyone here watching it........read book?

jgriinke 02-02-2016 06:23 AM

I believe you can get each year separately. I don't know if they have a whole set deal. I thing it's offered through PBS.

I don't know if it will happen our not, Lady Mary and Tom getting together, but I hope they do. I think he can keep her grounded.

toverly 02-02-2016 07:02 AM

They do seem to be pairing up everyone. I think they will hint at it happening, but not happen. Just my thought.

Snooze2978 02-02-2016 07:11 AM

I agree with Polly that Mary would never consider her brother-in-law as good enough but when you think about it she didn't think Matthew was good enough for her either at the beginning. Stranger things have happened. I pre-ordered Season 6 an its supposed to be delivered today but due to the white-out blizzard we're having I doubt if they will venture out for deliveries, maybe tomorrow I'll receive it.

quilter1 02-02-2016 07:23 AM

I received season 6 last week and have watched it all- not going to spoil it for you though. I must say that I loved this series and wish there were more quality programs like this available to watch. The Dowager Countess sure has some zingers !!

NoraB 02-02-2016 10:02 AM

I didn't start watching it until this season. What is the story about Marigold? They briefly mentioned something this last episode. And, how did Sybil die?

quiltsRfun 02-02-2016 10:42 AM

Marigold is Edith's out-of-wedlock daughter. She's trying to keep it a secret by claiming she's her "ward." Sybil died in childbirth.

NoraB 02-02-2016 11:14 AM

Thanks for the answers!

If you have Netflix there are a lot of quality shows, especially British shows. I love Foyle's War, George Gently, Last Tango in Halifax to name a few. I wish American TV would offer something decent but haven't been able to find much other than some Hallmark series and Blue Bloods and a few others. We have gone to watching mostly Netflix anymore.

nativetexan 02-02-2016 01:16 PM

the last episode! number 6? I don't get it until next Sunday.

That's an interesting theory. Not sure. Only thing I notice for sure is the writer seems to be wrapping different story lines up quickly. Like the burst ulcer and it turning out fine (like in ten minutes show time). They are definitely not stretching things out, in my opinion.

I am just catching up, starting season 5, which I did watch hit and miss. Love the show though, and I think it is ending too soon. I do think there was a lot of potential for additional story lines. But oh well.

You really need to watch the entire series...so much information you need to get a full grasp of this series. It's worth it.

Definitely agree with you. I'd be lost if I hadn't been catching up with past seasons.

And Downton Abbey won the Dramatic Cast award of the Screen Actors Guild over the weekend. I was very happy for that.

ctyankee 02-02-2016 06:42 PM

I've been hoping that Tom & Mary would pair up since they've been working on the estate together. Even though Mary said she wouldn't "marry down," I think she'll come around ... she & Tom are already friends & getting closer all the time. I started watching when I got the boxed set of DVDs for the first 3 years one Christmas. So we watched the show & fell in love with it just before Season 4 started. I had a bunch of story lines in my head, thinking that this show could go on for years, & then they announced this is the final season. I agree that this season is going by rapidly. They appear to be matching up people & finalizing all the loose ends. Only 4 more episodes to go. Not happy about that.

Geri B 02-03-2016 07:12 AM

I too agree things are wrapping up "rather quickly" as they say! I think Cook (mrs. ?) will be leaning toward Mr. Mason- daisy's father in law; daisy and the farm helper/house boy; barrow ?

i found one line sort of strange in this last episode.....when mrs Hughes was talking to Cook about what Carson said to her about her cooking " not being like his mother's". My first thought was...he was employed in service at the house since a young man, eating whatever was cooked there...why suddenly recalling and expecting food like mama made!
oh well, just an observation.....

marge954 02-03-2016 07:18 AM

I'd love to see the Russian man come back for the Dowager!

ManiacQuilter2 02-03-2016 08:04 AM

MUM should be the word until everyone has had a chance to watch the episodes!

Onebyone 02-03-2016 08:13 AM

I've seen the last ever episodes. Everything is resolved in surprising ways. I'll miss the show. It is excellent tv.

institches33 02-03-2016 08:53 AM

PBS offers the series during their fundraising programs.

I'm "hooked" and there are only 4 more episodes?!? Oh well......either I will watch all seasons OR, I might just check out the book.......wished I'd started watching earlier. But, I realized that it started when I was still working and Sunday nights were always getting ready for the week. Now, I'm blissfully retired and enjoying every minute of it!

Kitsie 02-03-2016 11:26 AM

I always kinda though they seemed close, too. However, my bet is on the car racer! At first I though it might be he and Edith.

Julian Fellowes did say this season would be "Resolution" and that seems to be true. I love his wicked humor in making it almost farcical that wverything (so far) is falling neatly into place!!

kydeb 02-03-2016 03:42 PM

I can't say anything! I watched it online and I received my DVD yesterday. I will say that I was pleased with the way they ended it! Love, love, love Downton Abbey!!

Geri B 02-04-2016 06:23 AM

I don't think there is a book, as mentioned in one of the posts.

I've never before done this, but I am tempted to buy the entire set of this series...it is the best story line and acting, tech detail, etc., that I've seen since Gone With The Wind...JMHO

Nammie to 7 02-04-2016 07:43 AM

Walmart usually carries the DVD's -- will be looking for Season 6!

Amazon has the Season 1 -5 set. The prices change all the time, yesterday it was almost $70, it has dropped today considerably.
