Some people will steal anything!!!

Today my dh went to one of the big box stores. Since he was out, he took a large garbage bag with our recycle "trash" and threw it into the back of his truck. When he came out of the store, it was gone!!!I always make sure nothing with our name or address is in the recycle stuff so I am not worried in that regard. My husband called the sheriffs' office when he got home, just in case they dump it somewhere. I swear, we have had a lot of laughs about it. I hope they enjoy going through our trash!!!!

Tartan 10-16-2015 03:27 PM

Ain't that the truth! Maybe they thought it had aluminum cans inside?

Rosyhf 10-16-2015 03:51 PM

Good grief!! lol

quiltsRfun 10-16-2015 04:07 PM

Yes, it's just a matter of grab what you can and dump if it's not valuable. Good idea to notify the police. My friend how owned a printing company had a truck stolen. The thieves dumped all the promotional items with the company's info and my friend was cited for it.

Years ago my parents rented a farm and kept finding garbage dumped in the ditches. They cleaned it up every time because it's the right thing to do, then they discovered a newspaper with a name label on it. It was the farm owner.

My dh just discovered that someone stole the rubber caps off of our metal fence posts. They have sharp tops and I have horses, and we have them there so they don't hurt themselves. They left the last three closest to the house. Why???

tate_elliott 10-16-2015 05:55 PM

Are you familiar with the story about the New York City garbage strike? It seems one clever fellow would put his garbage in a box, gift wrap it, and leave it in his car with the window down. Problem solved.

Except the thief probably dumped it for someone else to clean up.

like they say, it takes all kinds.

Battle Axe 10-17-2015 02:37 AM

Funniest story I ever heard about stolen trash. Someone had accidentally ran over a cat and they didn't want to leave it there on the road so somehow the put it in a box marked wedding dress and that was stolen.

ManiacQuilter2 10-17-2015 03:17 AM

I don't put anything with even my name and address without shredding it first. You never know what others are looking for in the garbage.

Why? Because they could. And further from the house they probably won't be caught.

We also shred anything with our name on it. I have used it for packing and made fire starter bricks out of it. My friends have a chiminea (not sure of the spelling) and use the bricks. I have also set small boxes for the birds to build their nests.

Then there's the story of the woman who put her dog's refuse in a lovely ribboned box and set it in the back seat of her car. Three thieves got into her car and stole the package and had the nerve to thank her for the "gift". She merrily said thank you and proceeded to drive off. Wonder what they thought when they opened the "gift"?

I owned a small business between a convenience store and a bar. The bar patrons were always hoping the fence to get hot dogs and other snacks and throwing their trash in front of my shop before going back to the bar. I CHAINED a BEAT-UP metal trash can to a pipe next to the wall in the hope their messy food trash might make it into the can - someone stole the trash can!

Bubbie 10-17-2015 06:51 AM

You know what they say about "One mans trash" LOL

we had a german shepard growing up. my dad would do patrol of what was left in the yard by smokie each day. one day he put the poop in a small cardboard box. taped it up. put it out for garbage. sure as heck.....someone stole the nicely wrapped poop.

JanieH 10-17-2015 10:15 AM

Those stories tickled me (aside from the fact of the sadness that people will steal anything).

Several years ago a friend of mine and her family went to eat lunch out after church. When they came out the car had been broken into and they had stolen her Bible. She was very upset as she had it a long time and it had been a gift from her parents. Later she told me that she felt like it may be a good thing as they sure needed it more than she did.

caspharm 10-17-2015 12:01 PM

It is amazing how people like their 5 finger discounts.

Several years ago my dh and I moved to a retirement home. Most of the family helped us discard what we didn't want to take with us. However, once when I looked outside I spotted 3 filled black garbage bags near the garbage can. After a while I decided that maybe I should check on what was inside the bags. Thank goodness I did; inside were most of my sewing supplies. (Nobody ever confessed to putting the supplies in the bags, but I have my suspicions!)

red-warrior 10-18-2015 06:05 AM

So sad, but a good laugh!

silverfoxmag 10-18-2015 07:20 AM

My laugh for the day, thank you!

My dad once knew a guy who had a Drs. appt. and couldn't find a suitable bottle to put his urine sample in, so grabbed a Scotch bottle out of the recycling bin. Sure enough, it was gone after he returned to his car. Wonder if the person joined AA after that?!

ljptexas 10-18-2015 09:04 AM

Ain't it the truth!! Here in Texas just recently & another time few mths ago, someone stole the trailer that belonged to a Boy Scout troop, cut chains & all!!! It had all their camping stuff, some things that had been made long ago). Some people!!! Can't get much lower than that!!!

jeanne49 10-18-2015 09:20 AM

It's amazing what people do. Great idea about notifying the sheriff's office, because if anything did have your name and address you surely would be sited.

Boston1954 10-18-2015 11:13 AM

Many years ago a lady was walking her dog. She was a nice responsible lady and had a bag with dog "duty" in it. Some man ran up to her and just grabbed it out of her hands, and ran off. He stopped a few hundred feet away to see what he had. He stuck his hand in the bag and yelled "OH SH**!!". She yelled back "Yes it is!". (this was told to me as a true story)

IBQUILTIN 10-18-2015 11:40 AM

One man's trash is another mans treasure. Sure hope they enjoy

mojo11 10-18-2015 12:57 PM

Good grief! Lol

It's been about 31 years ago, my house was broken into. We had to go up to the next town to sit with a family member who was sick. When we got home we discovered the backdoor window had been busted. The fridge door was open, open cans strewn about and dirty dishes all over the stove and counter.

I was so mad I ran out to the street and threw a pack of bacon into the road and yelled.....You idiots forgot the effin' bacon. Our landlord came by the next day to fix the window and brought us several bags full of groceries. I knew who did it, all I said to them was.....All you had to do was ask, we would have gave you all we could spare.

Sewnoma 10-19-2015 05:57 AM

When DH & I were newly wed, we went to spend the day in San Francisco after visiting his grandmother and, not knowing the city very well, ended up parking our car in a not-so-great area. When we came back we found that someone had smashed the window and stolen a bag that his gran had just given to us out of the back seat.

The contents of the bag? A bunch of old worn-out socks his gran had saved for me to make into dog toys. It cost us a couple hundred bucks to get the window fixed, but I still think it's funny someone stole a bunch of old socks.

I'm interested in your fire starter bricks. We have a wood stove that I make waxed paper starters for. I save and roll up our junk mail and purged statements, anything with our name and address or account numbers on them. When we need starter papers, I melt old candles, old crayons and candles from yard sales in a bread baking pan on our wood stove. When the wax is completely melted I dip the rolled up papers in the wax, line them up on newspaper to cool and harden, then stack in a basket next to the stove ready for the next fire. Nobody can read our info in the ashes.

I live near Jerome Arizona which is a old mining town and now it is a tourist town on the side of a 7000 ft mountain. I saw in one of the shops they had those white starafoam peanuts in baggies and they were selling them as Ghost poop. It is strash and they are making money.
