Stop by the garage for your make of car and ask them where the manual locks are. Every car should have a way to get out of it. They may be in a place that doesn't look like a lock or something. I can't imagine a car manufacturer making a car you can't get out of. What kind or brand of car do you have? I sure don't want one if you can't get out of it. I can't lock my car with the key in the ignition and feel that is a good thing. I also have the automatic locks and electric windows but there is a button to manually unlock the doors from the inside. Glad you had your cell phone with you.

Wow that is something I never would have thought of happening. Thanks for sharing and glad you're ok.

glad you are ok.we have no cell service here-kinda scary

willis.debra 07-24-2012 06:55 PM

OMG! Scary! Cars should open from inside, anyway, with doors locked. I will have to check this before I buy acar from now on! And you are in Texas, too. Soooo HOT here!!!

That IS scary, and you've given us a very good idea, to start the engine before shutting the door, especially in the hot months. Auto electronics are wonderful. When they are good, they are very-very good, but when they are bad, they are AWFUL! Glad you had your phone with you.

I checked out my new 2012 truck last evening and found I do have a button I can push up and manually unlock the door. This truck has everything.

So glad you are ok. How many times have I left the house without my cell phone. This will remind me how important they can be. What did we do before cell phones?

LindaJR 07-25-2012 07:50 AM

Chevy is only car I am familiar with that locks the doors. My daughter has one and I am always ready to open the door before it unlocks them. I do not like that feature, but you can manually unlock the doors in her car. I just started carrying a cell phone and your story gives another good reason to have one. Glad you could get help so quickly. Take care.

I am glad to hear you are ok, especially with the weather we are having. Never heard of this happening, but will be more careful myself.

I have the auto locks on my doors and I truely hated them to start with also... but now.. I will not own a vehicle without. My neice was on her way to be to work by 5 am. As she was pulling her car out of their garage.. a man jumped into her vehicle..forced her at knife point to drive to a remote area..and she was beat and raped. She was only 16. So she lives with this fear daily..she is like me...they lock..or she doesn't own.

I've never heard of not being able to unlock a door and we've had many vehicles with power locks in our over 50 years of driving. Our Charger locks when you start traveling and get to about 10 mph. It also has four lock buttons on the door that are manual. Our Santa Fe locked when you started the car but also could be unlocked manually, same for both of our Trail Blazers. What kind of vehicle are we discussing here?

I have a remote controls start on my car, which my son installed (he does this type of work for a living). When I turn off my car, I can get out, but none of my passengers. I have to manually unlock the car before they can get out. This is a safety feature I asked for. I don't want anyone getting into my car unless I ask them to get in. It can get annoying but "better to be safe than sorry."

I have a '93 Cadillac. When you turn the key to start the car the doors lock. There is a little tab switch that goes up and down that you can unlock the door while the car is still running and when you turn off the key or put it in park while it is still running it automatically unlocks. But sence my car didn't start, There was just enough juice to lock the doors I guess. I could not unlock the door manually. But after I did get out of the car I checked each door. I could move the lock tab if I had something to give me leverage. It was very tight and hard to move. Got a new battery and solved the problem but still, I never ever thought about something like this happening.
