I live close to where the shuttle lifts off at Cape Canaveral Fl.

I took this a few minutes ago of the lift off.

Thanks for posting, they don't show it on TV anymore!

sewnsewer2 07-15-2009 02:24 PM

You're welcome. Unfortunately it went behind the clouds. Not a very clear day here today.

That would be an awesome sight to see. Do you try to see them all?

bearpaw 07-15-2009 04:07 PM

That is really cool! How loud is it when they take off?

sewnsewer2 07-15-2009 04:22 PM

Yes I usually watch them.

It is so loud that the windows shake at home.

sewjoyce 07-15-2009 04:36 PM

Wow -- that is a really cool picture!!! And it finally got to GO!!

Moonpi 07-15-2009 05:57 PM

WAY COOL!

When we lived in GA, we could see the "trail" when the shuttle took off. Was too cool! Once when they had a night take off, we could see it glowing in the sky.
I've always wanted to go and watch one happen. We have some friends that work at NASA and they've said that when ever we want, we can come visit and we can go to where you can see it up close and personal.

I lived in Merritt Island in 1964-1965 and I remember that we used to go out on the playground at school and watch the launches---it was soooo cool! I wanted to be an astronaut when I grew up, but my mom told me only men could be----she wasn't much of a woman's libber :D

sewnsewer2 07-15-2009 07:33 PM

The night launches are awesome!! I'll try to get pics next time.

PrettyKitty 07-16-2009 02:01 AM

Cool! All I ever see in the sky by me is the police helicopter!

quiltwoman 07-16-2009 02:51 AM

I used to live in Ocala, FL and we, too, could see the night launches. Only once did it land in FL and our whole house shook. I had no idea what was happening.

reneebobby 07-16-2009 03:12 AM

COOL

susiequilt 07-16-2009 04:06 AM

Where I am I got about 10 sec of that same picture but the clouds were thicker so it was only a 10 sec. view.
I love to watch them but I've seen so many I don't go up there anymore. Up close the ground seems to actually shake. I highly recommend it for visitors.

chattypatty 07-16-2009 05:25 PM

I saw the launch for the first time last night. What an awesome sight. I felt so proud of our country and what it can accomplish. Great patriotic event.

here in Winter park I only saw it twice for a split second each, way to cloudy , but I was glad to see a safe lift-off.

kd124 07-19-2009 10:55 PM

Very cool. Thanks for posting.

Kara 07-20-2009 12:20 AM

I really wish they would show this on TV again. There's a whole generation of kids who have never seen it.

I think it's something that is taken for granted, but I think it's still really cool.

Bevanger 08-01-2009 06:12 AM

I just found this post. Thanks for sharing. Its cool you got to see it

susiequilt 08-01-2009 09:02 AM

The shuttle arrived home safely yesterday. The sonic booms were so loud I almost ran outside to see who was setting off bombs by my house!
Didn't see it but sure heard it.
:D
