A Special Holiday Visitor

1 Attachment(s)
We are a foster family for our local Animal Care & Control and we got a call earlier this week to see if we could help out for a couple of weeks. Of course we said "Absolutely!" We picked up "Kringle" yesterday. He is a schnauzer mix and 8-10 years old and very, very thin. Missing many teeth with a severe underbite. He was an owner surrender at the shelter with a right foreleg injury. It was determined that he has a fracture and his leg is casted and we will have him through the holidays. (I'm thinking I might have to keep this one, I have such a soft spot in my heart for those senior dogs; shhhhh, don't tell my other half!). He is 100% housebroken and such a lover boy. He doesn't bother the cats and our 2 shepherds get along well with him. He slept in bed with me last night along with my 15 yo Pomeranian and 3 of the 5 cats. He will be going to our groomer on Friday for a spa day which is donated by our groomer.

Such a sweetie, I am afraid I would keep Him also!!!!!!!

Tartan 12-19-2013 07:14 AM

He reminds me of our cocker spaniel we had (with an overbite) when I was little. Looked mean but was such a sweetheart.

nativetexan 12-19-2013 07:24 AM

Aw, look at those toofers!! Such a cutie. I'm glad he has a home for the Holidays.

LOL I noticed his big teeth too. I am also glad he is in a good place too.

Chasing Hawk 12-19-2013 07:56 AM

What a handsome devil.

I would have to keep him too no doubt about it. I am sure in his younger days the "girls" didn't mind his underbite. As long as he shared his kibble with them. :)

pocoellie 12-19-2013 08:33 AM

I would keep him also. Such a cutie!!

Stitch124 12-19-2013 08:39 AM

OMG! I'm in love with that little guy!!!

kayluvs2quilt 12-19-2013 12:10 PM

That is why I know I COULD NOT be a foster...I would not be able to let him go. Made my heart go all mooshie!!!

I am unable to be part of the physical act of returning our fosters to the shelter. I stay home, cry a little (ok, a LOT!) and hug my fur babies. I know that I am just a bridge for these throw aways; I only get to keep them for a little while. My job is to give them a safe & warm place to live, food in their bellies, sometimes teach them some manners and pour love all over them so they know that not all humans are bad and that they are worthy of being cared about. I know I can't keep them all but I sure can love them all. Once the fosters return to the shelter, we are active in getting them adopted. We help network through the shelter's social media page and it is really helpful when the foster family posts about the animal and can actually answer questions for the potential adopters. I am happy to say that ALL of the dogs we have fostered have been successfully adopted within 1-2 weeks of returning to the shelter!!

bjrusty 12-19-2013 12:59 PM

He's so cute, just love him and keep him. Barb

lynnie 12-19-2013 01:52 PM

he's a cutie. that's the look I want in a dog. dh says no to dogs, too much walking . my kitty Zoey also says no. but my heart says yes. such a cutie!!!

Jingle 12-19-2013 02:22 PM

He is so cute. I think he would be better off losing those teeth and only eating canned food. I think he would have a hard time eating with those teeth. May be why he is so thin.
I would not be able to return any of them.

momto5 12-19-2013 05:33 PM

He looks like one of the "loves" of my life....my poodle named Fib. Teeth are the same...but don't pull them, he'll be fine when he's on all canned food and/or soft snacks. Sure brought back pleasant memories, thanks!

gale 12-20-2013 12:30 AM

He is adorable. This reminds me of that movie called A Dog Named Christmas.

NUTMEG10 12-20-2013 04:43 AM

Oh how sweet, looks like a keeper to me. He has a joyish look to him.

Did you bawl as much as I did? LOL!!

frenchfryqueen 12-20-2013 05:49 AM

Well hello Kringle! What a cutie!

sparkys_mom 12-20-2013 05:59 AM

What a cute guy. Bless you for providing foster care. I work with a breed rescue and I know how hard it is to find people to do that. Right now, I have a darling Wheaten Terrier residing with a neighbor. She was turned in by her owners and in pitiful shape, but oh, so very sweet. We need to get her health issues resolved and then the hunt for a home begins.

pasovasz 12-20-2013 06:32 AM

I ran into a self proclaimed "failed foster person". He couldn't part with the dog he fostered, so kept it. I take "second Hand Dogs", too. They all deserve a good, loving home.

rjwilder 12-20-2013 07:53 AM

He is such a cutie pie, I'd keep him. I am a foster failure, all the animals we have fostered stayed with us. My husband calls it the Foster to Own Program.

We haven't been a Foster Failure yet but have been close a couple of times! I just told my other half this morning that I will let Kringle go back to the shelter when it is time but if he isn't adopted within 14 days, we WILL be adopting him. I was met with a blank stare. . .

jbj137 12-20-2013 08:21 AM

He does look like a Rag-A-Muffin now
But
He will shine after you groom him
And
hope you love him forever.

Neesie 12-20-2013 08:25 AM

Awwwww! He looks like such a sweetie!!!

Oh my gosh, he is just so cute!

Floralfab 12-20-2013 01:40 PM

Oh, he is so cute!!! I hope you can keep him. We adopted an older dog and he is our best friend. I am so glad we have him.

Kringle had his spa day today at our groomers and he looks like a completely different dog!

gale 12-20-2013 07:27 PM

Still adorable and he looks so happy!! Bless you for taking this beautiful baby in.

charhend 12-20-2013 08:11 PM

What a blessing for this little dog to have such a nice home to go to. It always amazes me how cruel people can be to their animals.

QM 12-20-2013 08:18 PM

He looks like a darling. Good for you!!

Caswews 12-21-2013 07:15 AM

OH Aunty He would be such a wonderful addition to your household and know he would be loved !!! Did I tell you one of my daughters fosters Great Danes. We have had the pleasure of meeting quite a few of the loveable giants, I would adopt one (and almost did !) but I had to think about our space issues for a dog so big .. Outside would of been great, but inside oh my ... LOL
Bless you for what you do for our furry friends !! (Oh Brie says HIGH PAW Aunty)

Roberta 12-21-2013 08:19 AM

I don't think I could ever give him back. He seems to have found himself in just the right home this holiday. God bless you for all you do for rescue's.

omacookie 12-21-2013 08:24 AM

God will bless you for caring for these animals. Hugs to you both.

JeannieT 12-21-2013 11:47 AM

He is SOOOO cute...and now he looks like he is smiling!! Kudos to you for your work with rescue animals. Our boxer was a rescue dog and he's the best dog we've ever had!! Merry Christmas!

Carol34446 12-21-2013 02:09 PM

Bless you for taking in abused and/or abandoned animals. Must be so hard for them after having "people" and a family to be left. Maybe you will keep him, but either way a new home or you he is a lucky boy and so pretty.

kindleaddict63 12-21-2013 07:51 PM

Kudos to you for all the kindness and care you give to these deserving fur babies.

IBQUILTIN 12-21-2013 09:06 PM

He is such a sweet little guy. God Bless you for your good work
