I am on the hunt for a spice rack or organizer that will work for me. I have at least 40 spice containers in a variety of sizes. Right now, all the spices are on the bottom shelf of my kitchen cabinet. The cabinet is rather deep so I end up having to move spices around in order to find what I need. If I'm not real careful when reaching around the spices, some of the containers fall off the shelf onto the counter.
I purchased an organizer I thought would work, but it was too tall. Raising the shelf above didn't work because I'm only 5' tall, and after raising the shelf, I couldn't reach the things on the upper shelf. I tried moving all the spices to the pantry, but it's so much more convenient having my spices on the cabinet shelf next to the stove. There is 7" from the bottom of the shelf to the shelf above it. That's all I have to work with. What kind of spice rack or organizer do you ladies use? Any suggestions? |

Here are a couple that might work - the second one has been on TV lately.

My husband installed a two tier rack that I can pull forward / down from the cabinet. It fit in the small cabinet above the stove - I actually have two of them.
They were made by Rubbermaid. Here's the link ... http://www.rubbermaid.com/Category/P...od_ID=RP091526 |
My big containers I have in the cabinet but the smaller ones are in a drawer

I have an over the door shelf on the inside of my pantry. It holds a lot of stuff. My pantry is quite small.. So this works, I really like the one they are advertising on TV now, it will be in the Walgreens soon, I'm sure and all the other places that carry "Seen on Tv." things.

I am also 5 feet tall and this drives me crazy too..I keep mine in exactly the same spot you do..right in the cabinet to the left of the stove..except I seem to accumulate so many that I have 2 shelves worth...I hate when I reach into the back and they all fall over, spilling stuff...one heavy fell down one and chipped my stove...so, this works for me..
I put my spices into tins..like the square cookie tins..or a square or rectangular plastic container..one whose lid broke or something and I put them in there..this way I just slide out the whole box...and if something spills it stays in there..not all over the counter..helps for my kids too because when they cook things go flying..but at least they do cook... Best of all, it doesn't cost anything..the ones you buy..they wouldn't work for me because all my spice containers are different sizes... |
Mine Are inside a pantry door in an over the door clear plastic shoe bag from Wally's World. It is new. I did It less than a year ago and I love it. Lotions, powders, nail care stuff like that are on another one on The bathroom door. Works great. In the bathroom I even used alphabet stickers to label different pockets for lotion, q tips, cotton balls, etc. It is fun, bright amd cheery and they are ALL easy to find and put away.

Why not plastic shoe boxes? You could then put the lid on and stack if needed.
