Spider Web

Spider Web - no not a quilt. An Actual spider web in my back yard this morning. All webs are beautiful but when i noticed this one it had a much larger white "sewn zigzag" strip of stitches down the center. As if it tore and was repaired. Spiders can even make things beautiful. I did not stay to find that spider. Here in Texas they can be huge. Eeeek. I don't remember them being huge but these days, they are.
anyway, think of all the lovely spider webs you've seen and enjoy your day.

I absolutely love spiderwebs especially in the morning when they are covered with dew and sparkling in the early morning sun. We haven't had much of that this year as it has really been dry for northern minnesota.

OK, I went back and the web was occupied. Got a photo and ran for it!

They usually make those zig zags in an X shape, to hide behind. They are hiding from their prey until caught. We have some huge and beautiful webs on our porch at night. By morning they are gone. Wonder what kind of spiders make those?

Talk about dejavu! I was sitting out on the porch a while ago and a memory from the past came flooding in. There was a farm across the road from us when I was about 15 or so, and I had a crush on the oldest boy in the family. We saw one of these spiders (orange/yellow) and it scared me to death. Paul killed it for me and instantly became my hero....almost married this spider killing guy.

I grew up calling those orb weavers, I've also seen them referred to as garden spiders.

I prefer my spiders to come in books that I read to my classes long ago. I can remember Charlotte's Web and her weaving "Some Pig!" into the door frame near Wilbur's pen. I know spiders are useful and can create beauty but .... they creep me out!

Spider web

This type of spider alway makes the zig zag in the middle. They are large, as is their web.
we used to go out to the garden with a can of white spray paint and black poster board, spray the web with the paint (spider not there), then place the black board behind the web and. Pull forward.
Then we would frame with mat board and small frame. Beautiful work of nature art.
