What is the best stain remover? I spilled some cooking oil on my kitchen floor and
and as I was cleaning it up not realizing it I had nealt down on the floor and with my
good jeans got my knee in it. I right away tried washing it out with dawn dish soap
and hot water. This morning it was almost dry and looked like it still didn't come out.
I now have corn starch on it but not sure if it is too late. I just looked it up about the
corn starch.

I once spilled oil from a french fryer into a basket of clothes. All the oil came out with plenty of cornstarch. I usually apply quite a bit and then let it set overnight or until ready to do wash again. This has worked for me for 40+ years and always keep cornstarch handy in my laundry room.

I don't know about big oil spots, it may take several washings to get it all out. I get oil and grease splatters on my clothes from cooking. I've been using Tide Pods and the stains come out without any special treatment. Dreft baby spray for stains works for stubborn stains.

Dawn dishwashing liquid; normally will get it out; may have to soak. I also like resolve; it has spray n wash in it, I've even gotten old stains out. Then my other favorite is Simple clean, it can be used on everything including your dogs and it will kill the fleas and whiten thier fur.

I use dishwasher soap like Cascade dissolved in boiling water, just enough to cover the clothing and let the clothing soak in the cooled (somewhat) soap and water until I am ready to wash it in the washer, usually a day or so.

I use Goop, have it around anyway for my hubby's greasy clothes and hands. Just rub it in and let sit a few minutes or even overnight.

Zout (not Shout) is awesome. Takes stains out of clothes, carpet and our sofas. Love it!

I would like to suggest something an antique restorer once suggested (on a TV show). Take equal parts of Joy dishwashing liquid and Clorox II powder. Mix and put on the stain. I have had wonderful success with this and have not seen any damage to my fabric/garments. I have added some water if I had a large item that needed totally soaked instead of spot treated. This has gotten bad stains out that had been set by the dryer, though sometimes I have to treat 2-3 times and/or let soak for quite awhile.

Amen to the Goop post. Ive been using it for decades on everything. The only thing it won't remove completely is black tea stain. Don't get any other waterless hand cleaner, I've tried them. Only Goop works. In Walmart its in the automotive section and in auto supply stores. And it's gentle, and nonsudsing, good for quilts.

For oil stains, if all else fails, try PineSol.

I use Zout also, have used it for years. It can get old formula stains out of garage sale baby clothes and red clay stains out of white double knit baseball pants. I buy it from Amazon since I can't find it in my area.

I haven't tried corn starch, but have successfully used baby powder for oily stains. I sprinkle it on, rub it in with my fingers and let it set for while. Then launder as usual. This has even worked after I have soaked with Dawn and laundered previously and the stain did not come out.

I have used "zout" for over 25 yrs .. It is great stuff!!!

I use Goop on my DH's greasy work clothes when he works on his motor toys. It really works for dirty grease.

My sister is the queen of stain removal - really. She uses Shout Advanced - its in a spray can. Spray it on and wash it within 5 minutes. Do not let it set. She gets the grease out of her husbands jeans with this stuff. It really works.

you might try Ivory soap. long ago i got hair oil out of a pillowcase. the case looked grey but turned out white again!

For any greasy or oily spots.. I have great success with Dawn dishwashing liquid.

Cornstarch....really. I have never heard of this before. Has anyone else ever tried cornstarch?? I am going to try this. Thanks for posting. I use gojo hand cleaner and it works pretty well.

I know this sounds counter intuitive, but WD 40 is what we use on the farm to take heavy grease out from the equipment. Spray it on, let it sit for a few minutes and then wash in Tide. Takes it out every time and doesn't ruin even your good clothes. Jinnie

I have used water soluble cold cream with good luck. Just rub it all over the stain and let it sit for a while before washing as usual. Find it at the pharmacy in the face cream section. Also, I've found shampoo to work well on oil/grease stains. After all, it strips the oil from your hair when it's greasy.

awesome is truly awesome. especially since the price is one dollar. it works on everything. i even buy the type for grease on countertops. works great.

My mother taught me how to get grease (like from a car or motorcycle) out of a white jumpsuit I had. I had tried several things and it wouldn't come out. She told me to put a little bit of LARD on the spot, rub the fabric together until it gets HOT in your hand, then use a little dish soap and rub it in good. Wash as usual in the washing machine, and what do you know, not a spot was left! The trick is to use LARD, NOT SHORTENING! Try it........it may work for you.
