My granddaughter and I made strawberry jam yesterday. She did all the prep, cooking, and pouring into jars. Haven't tasted it yet but it looks good!

Makes me think about making some for gifts this year.

She sure looks happy about her Jam!!!
I havn't made Jam since I started working 9 years ago. I used to go out the strawberry fields and buy the "2nd's" right from the field and make jam with it. No time any more. Sure did taste good though!!!

This is my first time! I really enjoyed doing it and would like to do much more. Getting a little late for fresh fruit but there are farmer's markets and little stands nearby that I can get produce from.

I like the little fabric covers. I buy berries when they are in season and make some jam. I buy extra and frezze them, during the long cold days of winter I take out my frozen berries and make jam. It smells so good and warms the house.

That's great! Now you should teach her how to make some biscuits to go with that jam LOL. I love teaching my kids some of the 'old fashioned' techniques, canning, sewing, quilting, etc. Tell her good job!

Shes so cute!!!!!!!!!!! And what pretty jars of jam, who wouldnt want some for Christmas?!!!!!!!!!!

pittsburgpam 08-08-2010 09:33 AM

That's what I'm thinking... Christmas presents. :)

I should make some biscuits, been a long time since I did that. Makes me want some homemade bread, nice and warm from the oven and the end crust is the best part!

Made peach jam too. I want to try apple butter and apple pie filling next. That might be a nice gift basket. A jar of apple pie filling, a pie crust mix, a pretty pie pan, and a pie cutting/serving knife.

You should try strawberry peach jam! It is delicious!!! I buy it in Michigan when I visit Frankenmouth. The store is called " The Cheese House". I stock up. I am a little afraid to try making this all by scratch. I'm always sure something will go wrong.

Your GD has an early start in learning this craft! Good for her! Passing this on is a wonderful memory! For you and for her!!!

What a special time with your granddaughter. It is a memory that will fill her heart for the rest of her life and yours.
I make strawberry, blueberry and peach jam...so sooooooo good. Enjoy!

pittsburgpam 08-10-2010 10:00 AM

I am happy to share it with her. I let her do all the steps with just a little direction and she was so pleased.

Strawberry peach sounds really good. I have one large thing of strawberries left and 4 large peaches. Not enough on their own but together they should make at least 4 jars. I'm looking at a few recipes, maybe get to it tonight.
