I've had this one quite awhile but do they wear out...bought a new pad, washed the ball, soaked it hot water, the darn thing is uncontrollable  I guess have to go to WM and get a whole new one cuz I don't thing they sell just the balls... :?:

erstan947 09-10-2010 09:59 AM

I have a cordless mouse and love it. The newer ones don't have a ball. Let us know how it works out.

I have a laser mouse, and it's great. I wouldn't go back to a mouse with the roller-ball.... Sorry your mouse is giving you troubles!

There are little rollers on the inside of the mouse that get gunked up. If you take a Qtip soaked in alcohol and clean those rollers it should fix the problem. I used to have to do this to the mouse controllers at work. Everyone would remember to clean the ball but not the rollers. And if it doesn't work.. there is always the new mouse waiting for you at the WM. :)

amandasgramma 09-10-2010 10:35 AM

Nothing like washing mouse balls, is there??! LOL Yes, I suggest the laser ones, too. Have had this one for 4 yrs and haven't had ANY problems.

In the meantime...take the ball out and look at the little rollers -- they should be shiney. If you see a line of black on the rollers, take a q-tip with alcohol and wash them off. Good luck!

Yep, the little rollers inside wreak more havoc than the ball being a little dirty :D:D:D

oatw13 09-10-2010 10:54 AM

I agree with the rest, you may just need more cleaning.

Incidentally, you can purchase just the ball, but you would probably have to do it online or at a specialty electronics store.

It's probably cheaper just to get a new mouse. :)

Hope you get your problem solved - but your post made me laugh out loud.

Call the Cat! Its time to put that mouse to rest.

debbieumphress 09-10-2010 12:47 PM

ROFL Amandasgramma - so funny. I agree, the laser would be the way to go. No more rolly balls for me either.

shequilts 09-10-2010 01:01 PM

Don't you just hate it when your balls get dirty?

sewmuchmore 09-10-2010 02:51 PM

I let my hubby take care of things like that. Sorry about your mouse. :-(

You definitely deserve an optical mouse. While you're at it, go wireless. I can't say I've regretted it (but always have a couple extra batteries around).

Omg, you ladies are just too funny.

Just about as bad as my "where is his balls" comment to the Best Buy guy when I first saw an optical mouse....LOL

This is what I use now.

A friend typed in 'mouse balls' then clicked ' search.
He says he about laughed his head off at the answers.
He never would say just what the answers was.

My DH used to spend more time washing my mouse balls...and inside the mouse. For some reason...that just doesn't sound right. We used to get cat hair hung up in the little rollers. Use a magnifine glass, flashlight and tweezers. He could always get it working right again...but you know there is always a whole flock of mice at WM:lol:
