This is not related to quilting but thought you might like to see what I made using styrofoam containers. All you do is take a wire brush, scratch the outer surface, make drainage holes, spray done.

What a cool idea!

Thank you for sharing. It wouldn't freeze in winter either so it could be stored outdoors. Even if it doesn't make it through the winter in great shape, a little more spray should fix it up. 'I have an extra Styrofoam chest sitting around and think I'll try it.!

How clever of you to come up with such a great idea! I just saw some small ones at the $ Tree . They will work great for my herbs. Thank you!

Great use of coolers. My allergist gives them away, meds are shipped to him in them. Way too often they throw them out, another great use. Thanks for sharing.

I have seen a faux stone spray at JoAnns and think at the home improvement stores. There is one type of spray that styrofoam won't handle though. Kind of melts it. Not sure what one, used it back in my floral arrangeing days. Might be different with the coolers because they are a denser foam. I am going to attempt this, love the stone planter looks, hey, I got it, make stones. Use the spray foam, pile it up, let it cure and then spray paint it. Don't know how long it would last. Might try spraying foam over a old brick to give it some weight so they don't blow away. Gee thanks Mary O, got my creative juices flowing. Right after I finish the half dozen quilts working on in dungeon.

That's fabulous! What kind of spray paint did you use? A special finish?

I'm liking this idea. We get animal medications in these and I have several. Some I used for early starting of lettuce and radishes, but didn't paint them. Just received two smaller ones the other day. Going to give this a try with some "stone" paint. Thanks.

lol, i came up one short on pots for planting some cabbage...until, hubby came home from fishing with a styrofoam cooler....poked two holes on the bottom and planted the cabbage plant and it is doing quite well so far. i used the styrofoam cooler top as well-placed it under a large pot of strawberry plants.
