subject really out in left field

Have any of you ever built your own outdoor fireplace. If so where did you find the plans or instructions" I am wanting to build one. This summer three of my grandkids will be spending time here and looking for a project for them to work on. Last year they built my wood walkway through my flowers and around the house. Did not do bad either. They have about 25 feet to go and it will be done . They have done about 200 feet with two metal arbors already planted with vines that bloomed last year. I am having a concrete patio put in this summer and want fire to go with. I don't have the funds to buy a kit but have piles of brick and stone. Also available is any metal I may need. Just can't find plans or instructions without using expensive kits. Thought wit a little luck someone out there may be able to point me in the correct direction. Thanks for reading and wondering what the Heck I am thinking with. At least I have thought it!

I went to Yahoo and typed Free outdoor fireplace designs. In the images, their seem to be several plans.

E-how even has a page http://www.ehow.com/how_7969635_diy-...ace-plans.html

Go on to Pinterest.com and type in what you want and you will probably get a lot of free plans.

So far all I can find is generic directions. I need things like how large of chimney (size) per size of fire box. I know that it must be in relationship to fire box for correct draw. I did find one that was 40" box with 18" flue. But not the formula for it. I was on goggle but did not see the E-How page. I will look further into that site. Thanks. Pinterest is next

Try Menard's--Lowe's--Home Depot They all have some great DIY plans. Cruise through some Home Beautiful type magazines Get some idea's . Oh my favorite magazine for great idea's and plans is Mother Earth. You can also browse a Patio/BBQ/Fire Place store. They are great for helpful hints on how and what you will need to be aware of material wise.

Are you building a fire pit or an out door fire place with a chimney? If its the fire place check with your local masanary store they should have a free pamphlet/paper with your local regulations with sizes, and types of materials. That should have a basic drawing with dimensions of the inside or bones of a project (don't want it crumbling around you) then you can put what ever facing you want on.

We recently went thought this process for putting a fire place in with the outdoor room we built, due to cost for us we decided against it and we are going to install a free standing wood burning stove instead.

Good luck I hope your idea works out better than ours did I would like see pictures when it's done.
