Sweet dreams
 

For longer than I can remember, there has been on on-going battle between Hubby and I. It's the year 2012 and we're still sleeping on a water bed mattress since 1978. Yup, you're reading that correctly. He thinks it's wonderful and didn't want any kind of a change. Mind you, he could get a decent night's sleep on a park bench. It's been killing me, between the arthritis and hot flashes. It wasn't supporting my joints enough and the very last thing I need in my life is any added heat! Hated to but issued an ultimatum, which is more important to him, the water bed or sleeping with his wife......... I now understand why Ricky and Lucy Ricardo slept in twin beds.

Happy to report, a queen size pillow top is being delivered this afternoon. In retrospect, why did I spend months arguing with him? I should have just taken my handy dandy seam ripper to his side of the waterbed mattress and poked a series of small holes/leaks on his side of the bed........all's fair in love and war!

Anyhow, think of me tonight, hopefully super comfortable and getting the best sleep I've had in forever.

I had a waterbed until 5 years ago .... finally decided to grow up. LOL :D

You should have just gotten a cat and spread out some quilting fabric on top of the bare waterbed. Those little kneading feet would have caused the monster to bleed to death in short order. No guilt involved.

Bless your heart! It never ceases to amaze me, how patient some people can be. Like others, I'd have made sure that thing mysteriously met its end, long before now. :D

I feel for you!! When DH settles in for the night, I tell him I feel seasick! And we don't even have a waterbed!

Only problem with that - I bet SHE would have been stuck cleaning up the mess!

I've had a king sized waterbed for 30 years. I have a hard time sleeping on a regular mattress. I'll be downsizing in the next few months & HATE the thought of giving it up. :thumbdown:

You may be surprised at the comfort of the newer mattresses.....so many choices and styles now. Not the mattress and box spring combo at all. The delivery guys just drove away. I have a brand new set of queen sheets in the washer as we speak. I'm so excited. Hope to have it all made up and snazzy before Hubby gets home tonight.

We have had a king size waterbed since 1977 and we love it. All of our children had waterbeds growing up but now they all have regular beds. Not sure we will ever give our up.

Just got rid of ours a couple of years ago. We were both scared we wouldn't like anything else. Had same mattress for 30 some years, no problems except the stuff that keeps it from moving had all moved to the foot. So, we bought a new mattress. Within a week our cat had punctured a whole bunch of holes in one corner. Must have been chasing the bubbles you get when you first fill them up, cause she had never done this before. We were just sick!! Anyway, finally took the plung and got a king size pillow top serta. Absolutely LOVE it.

My husband has a king size bed that I use to sleep in, until I decided that I was fed up with him being a bed hog. I now sleep in the guest bedroom on a double size bed. It works for us, he goes to bed early and I'm a night owl. I use to wake him up when I would come to bed. Now it doesn't matter what time I go to bed and some times it is really late.

We have an airbed and I love it -- DH can have his side his way and I can have my side my way. If I need it a bit harder or softer because of my back, it is adjustable. Never had a water bed -- we tried some and he turns too heavy so it never worked for us.

Had a king waterbed for three decades; replaced it with Pillow Top - hated the pillow top; replaced it with individual waterbed mattresses. Both of us are happy!

Never could stand a water bed. I had a friend who loved hers but when I house sat I always ended up sleeping on the couch. I like a very firm mattress. I have been some places I ended up sleeping on the floor. That was a while back though don't think I could get up off it now. lol

I love my Tempurpedic mattress! I wondered how much I would like it but now wouldn't trade it for anything!

I had a boyfriend (years ago) that had a waterbed. I happened to be napping on it, rolled over, and the mattress and all went with me. It pinned me on the floor against the wall. It is a very creepy feeling to be buried under a waterbed mattress!

We had a waterbed for years, but it was hard on my arthritis. Now we have the Sleep number. His side is soft, mine is firm, we both sleep well.

I had any number of them until I married my DH 8 years ago & he said "no way". I was sure I'd never gget a decent night's sleep ever again & guess what? First night... slept like a baby (& no, I don;t mean I woke up wet & hungry every 3 hours... LOL!). I'm a convert back to "regular" beds. I hope you're as happy with yours as I am with mine! I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who sleeps without DH (but with Leo). He has Restless Legs Syndrome which is no fun to share a bed with. My knee & back wake me up several times a night, so I'm up & down. So, our darling MD told us she thought we'd both sleep better if we separated sleeping spaces. So, he sleeps in the guest room & Leo (my dog... I'm not kinky... LOL!) & I sleep in the master. It works like a charm. He can go to bed early & I can stay up all night if I want to. It works for us. Hey... it makes for fun "visits"... LOL!

Reporting back in.....at first the new pillow top felt much firmer than the one in the showroom. We even questioned that the salesperson ordered the correct mattress. Anyhow, took it for a spin last night. Fell asleep in probably less than 15 minutes which is unusual for me so that would be around 11:15, never woke up until 4:30 for a potty call. Can't remember the last time I didn't toss and turn and wake up every hour. When I got up at that time, was amazed I could actuallly stand up straight and my spine didn't hurt. Also did not wake up with hotflashes. I'm sure I had a couple but were mild enough not to wake me. With the heated waterbed I'd lay there cooking for what felt like hours. This just might be a significant quality of life improvement. Woooooo Whooooo!

I had back trouble and could not sleep on my back. I purchased a foam bed. HEAVEN, now I sleep however I choose. I get up in the mornings with no pain. Regular bed just did not work with all of my arthritis.

We gave up the waterbed up to 3 years ago. I still miss getting into bed in those cold Iowa winters and not having warm sheets! We replaced it with a queen size pillow top mattress. I am comfortable in that too.

Sorry to say, but DH and I have separate rooms too. Conjugal visits are fun, but it sure is nice to have the whole bed and the only snoring I hear is dainty, and from my little Yorkie and Maltese fur babies!

I had a waterbed for years and loved it- just hated changing the sheets! Once it sprung a leak, that was it, went back to regular pillowtop mattress, and love it!

Too funny! I'd forgotten about my years on a waterbed early on in my first marriage. We even put our kids into single-sized waterbeds when they moved out of cribs. I LOVED the waterbed. When the marriage split, he took the bed and I bought myself a nice pillow-top mattress. It gets flannel sheets in the winter, and nice cool cotton in the summer. Almost twenty years later, I'm ready for a new mattress and am thinking of the temprpedic. Don't like the foam pillows, though, so am not sure what I'll think of the mattress.

Costco has a foam mattress pad you can buy and use to see if you like the tempurpedic (sp). It makes some people too warm. But understand now they have the "cool gel" to help prevent it. My husband sleeps way too warm to get one.

I don't know WHY, some of us keep the same old bed for years on end. I have fibromyalgia and we bought our first brand new bed last summer.
Now, dh hates it, just like the one before it, but I was in agreement that time.
We actually went bed shopping again, but I've been OCD-ing about that decision and held it until I nearly burst.
I was trying so hard to leave this entirely up to him, bc I don't want him to be hurting.
I may just find I will feel better too...just miserable with the fibro. today.
Had to do a shout out, bc misery loves company.

Good for you. i hope you get a restful night's sleep after all that time. I have a comfort mattress that adjusts with air. select comfort i think. hubby now sleeps in the recliner, even though his side of the bed never lost air. mine always did and still does!
i just got our tiny shower in our small bathroom fixed. it's been out of order for over 15 years!!
