Have any of you used these lids? I ordered some (a lot) because they are reusable. To me it always seemed a shame to toss the used lids in the trash. And, a couple of years ago lids were in short supply.

I think I originally saw them advertised in Mother Earth News a couple of years ago. They are not cheap but niether are the throw away lids if you have to buy new each year.

Where did you find them? Did you use them yet? I agree about throwing the old lids - a lot of waste.

I haven't heard of them before, but don't like throwing away the lids either after just one use.

I am looking at long term use. I have many "antique" canning jars that have the glass lids and use rubber sealing rings that came from my grandmother. Yes the reusable lids are expensive, but what would be the consequences if the metal lids were no longer available?

I asked on one of my homestead lists - this is the basic response: They work great. BUT - There's a little
trick to them, after you take the jars out of the canner you need to screw the bands down tight until the jars cool. They don't "ping" like the metal lids.

I will try some of these. I want to learn canning this year. :)
