I'm watching the news with folks talking about a sharp rise in their property taxes in C(r)ook County (which includes Chicago). Like most of us, their assesments went down due to poor real estate prices across the country, but their rates for services increased dramatically for an overall increase.

Sears is also talking about leaving Il because of tax increases.

I live in a rural IL county and was pleasantly surprised to get my tax assessment yesterday and see that my taxes will be lower in 2012.

How about all of you?

I have a homestead exemption also. Taxes are frozen at the level they were when I turned 65 in 2007.

we usually pay about 1200 or so for our school taxes although this year they were down to 290. now we do get an exemption due to bunnie being a senior and income but that was huge this year for us. in Jan we will have property taxes to deal with that will be intersting also up or down who knows.

we have a new hobby lobby store, big and fancy and all of the things you cold ever want under one roof. lol well we now have a properity improvement taxes added on to our bill that we have to pay. i spend almost 100 dollars for my grand son and would do it again in a heart beat. but what chapped my cheeks is that i had to pay hobby lobby 1 dollar on this new tax and it goes to walmart of all places as they own the land that hobby lobby sits on. and because of the improvement on the land to build this new bigger and better store i have to pay for it. i want my old hobby lobby back. blessings ogama

We have never had our taxes go down. I don't think they ever will

We also have a Homestead exemption...it reduces the taxes on our property by $34,000...since the recession our property values went down $5000 but our taxes have risen again this year as it has every year that we've lived here

We now qualify for the senior reduction since DH became a senior.
Our taxes are now @ $2,500.00 annual

Mine is still spinning. I had my grandmother live w/ me for years and received homestead and parsonage (my grandfather was a minister) exemptions. Was I ever shocked when I got the first tax bill after she died!! Good thing the cost of living is relatively lower here, or you couldn't afford to live.
