Tell me about Thieves Essential Oil

Recently I've seen references to Thieves as an amazing product to have in your health arsenal. Please share any experiences/comments. Many thanks!

Blue, I make my own although you can buy it pre-made. I have a lot of essential oils and it's more economical for me to make mine.
I posted a recipe for it on another thread. I make it and put it in little spray bottles for my purse instead of buying those hand sanitizers that are loaded with unhealthy ingredients. If you do a google search it will come up.
I also use many of the ingredients to make my own house cleaners.

It works great as a disinfectant and smells so good. Buy from a reputable company. I use Young Living oils.

I use it when I feel a cold come on...I put a few drops in a glass of water and drink it. It doesn't mix well, so I swirl it a lot. When I start getting a sore throat I swab it way back where it hurts and it always takes care of it. Clove bud oil also works well for me. I haven't had a bad cold in years since doing this. Great idea to use it for your hands when out in public! Does anyone else use baking soda water to stifle a cold? I start drinking that immediately (about a half tsp to a glass of water) when I feel a cold could be coming on and it nips it in the bud. Sometimes I need to do it several times, but if I stay on top of it, it works. Hate getting sick!!

I use Young Living also. I love Thieves oil and all the products that Young Living uses it in. It's a great disinfectant and I've found that I rarely get sick when I use the spray and hand sanitizer. I love their Thieves cleaner. It has such and nice light scent. Recently my husband cleaned out his dad and stepmom's house after they moved to assisted living. He brought home some of their cleaning products they had left and I thought I'd go ahead and use them up. Holy sheep! I'd forgotten how strong and toxic some regular cleaning products smelled. I gave them to my husband to use in the garage. I'll take my Thieves cleaner any day.

Makes a great room deodorizer and lasts a long time. We used it when we had a B&B. I got so I didn't like the smell, so make sure you do before investing in much.

SusieQOH would you refer me to the thread you gave your recipe in.

  • 2-ounce amber glass spray bottle (it needs to be glass and either amber or cobalt in color since EO's can break down plastic overtime and sunlight/light harms oils)
  • 15 drops of Thieves essential oil.
  • 1 teaspoon witch hazel.
  • A little under 2 ounces of distilled water.

Thieves Oil
  • 40 drops organic Clove Bud essential oil.
  • 35 drops organic Lemon essential oil.
  • 20 drops organic, fair trade Cinnamon Bark essential oil.
  • 15 drops organic Eucalyptus essential oil.
  • 10 drops organic Rosemary essential oil.

I swear, since I've been using natural products I never get sick!! It's been about 3 years and I believe I've had one cold. That's it. I use natural products on my body and in my home.

EDIT- For the spray in my purse I will use plastic as I use it up quickly. But for my cleaning products I use either cobalt or amber glass bottles.

I use either Young Living or Doterra oils. There are some other good ones too but you have to be careful. I don't buy mine on Amazon. I don't trust some of the sellers.

And I agree with Patrice- the cleaners on the market are loaded with nasty chemicals. I haven't bought them in a looong time.

Susie, do you buy your oils at your local health food store?

SusieQOH 11-09-2018 01:51 PM

Blue- no, I use Doterra but there are other good ones out there. I used to have an account and bought a lot so I have most of what I need right now. A few reputable companies:
Doterra
Young Living
Miracle Botanicals
Mountain Rose Herbs

I know there are others as well but can't think of them at the moment. I have bought from all the above and love the quality.
I'm not one to ingest oils. I know some people do though.
Hope this helps :)

PS. I don't buy them from Amazon because I'm never sure of the source.
