I want some!!!

quilter1962 05-05-2009 10:06 PM

Umm Patti

They look georgous much better than what we currently are getting over here - (foreign forced fruit) It will be better once the British ones are ripe - I can't wait. In the meantime enjoy yum yum.
Have to say I like Moonpi's idea of shortcake.

Mmmmmmmmmm nom nom nom. When we were kids Mom and Dad used to take us to 'Pick Your Own' strawberry farms. Dad used to tease me that they would weigh me on the way in, then way me on the way out to see how much I'd eaten during picking!

Nice idea....make a victoria sponge cake (ie two layers of sponge cake, can send you a recipe if you want). Using a potato masher, mash a couple of generous handfuls of strawberries in a bowl (helps if you chop them in half first). Then press this through a seive so you are left with strawberry syrup and strawberry mush. Add the syrup to some whipping cream and whip until nice and stiff. Use the mush and a little of the strawberry cream to sandwich the two layers of sponge together. Use the rest of the strawberry cream to decorate the cake, using a piping bag or just slathering it on with a palette knife!

I always do this for my Dad's birthday!

k3n 05-06-2009 12:09 AM

Mary - when I used to go PYO as a child, my Mum said the same to me about the weighing!

Patti, I'd just eat those as they are, if I could get to them before my kids! Mine are all in flower so won't be long now!

leona07 05-06-2009 09:23 AM

My first thoughts were....freezer jam on a banana split!! YUM YUM YUMMY!!!!!!!

sandpat 05-06-2009 03:01 PM

Toooo late for any more options....made homemade strawberry ice cream custard today!!! YUMMY!!!!! I kept out 1 quart to just eat, made a batch of ice cream and pureed the other quarts and froze them. Now I can either add the puree to smoothies, make a syrup with it or make more Ice cream. Its sooo yummy, wish you all could come over for ice cream!!

barnbum 05-06-2009 03:37 PM

K, I really wish it would..I'd send you some. It does taste more like the full cream gelato that you can get in Italy than our regular ice cream. I have NO idea where I got the recipe  I did find that (since I have the eating habits of a 12 yr old), that I like the European ice cream MUCH better than ours

beachlady 05-07-2009 04:40 AM

I'll be there soon Patti! Save some for me!

sandpat 05-07-2009 04:51 AM

You got it!!! I have tubs in both freezers AND have bags of strawberries to make more when that runs out!! (Just make sure to bring some of those Maine blueberries with you, will ya'??)

I live right in the middle of STRAWBERRY HEAVEN! The Santa Maria Valley! CALIFORNIA! We have fresh strawberries for so long. One of my favorite ways to eat them is to dip them in sour cream and then in brown sugar.

sandpat 05-07-2009 03:22 PM

Oohhhh, well now you are being just plain downright nasty!!!!

Now that does sound good...I thought today...rats...I should have made some chocolate covered strawberries...those are yummy too!

i think that would be more like eating chocolate covered strawberries? IE take a strawberry, dip in melted chocolate, pop it in your mouth; take another strawberry, dip in melted chocolate, pop it in your mouth, and so on... then it's, hey Patti, thought you were making chocolate covered strawberries - where are they, then? Patti - 'errggghhhmmmmrrrmmmmghghgh'! :D

ania755 05-09-2009 08:57 AM
