Thank you moderators!

I come here often late at night. It is not uncommon to see lots and lots of spam messages.
Lots of spam.
The moderators are clearly kept very busy chasing them down and clearing them out.

I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work keeping this forum a nice, viable place for all of us.
I really appreciate all your efforts!
:)

patricej 02-23-2024 03:00 AM

you are very welcome! :-)

aashley333 02-23-2024 04:11 AM

I second that emotion!!

bearisgray 02-23-2024 04:39 AM

Has quilting board always been a target for this kind of spam?

It seems like there is so much more of it lately.

t also hank you for the clean out of the garbage posts.

I do wonder what language many of them are written anyone know?

cindyb 02-23-2024 06:14 AM

I also thank you!!!!! This has been a 'safe place' every morning for years.

I'm guessing you are referring to things like ¸Ð¿Ñ€Ð¾Ð´Ð°Ñ‚ The one that recently posted post like that has link to a Russian domain site and country of residence in profile is Namibia (country in southern Africa). I'm not sure if the Country of Residence in profile is accurate.
The spam bots and spammers are from all over the world.

KalamaQuilts 02-23-2024 12:19 PM

I'm always amazed at how many views obvious spam gets. If it has had no views I report it, if someone from here has already responded I just go on my way, no way am I givinng them the satisifaction of views :)

Peckish 02-23-2024 12:28 PM

Ditto what OneCharmShort said!

Tartan 02-23-2024 01:16 PM

The slams have been bad lately, thanks for all you do to take them down. No, I do not click on them because who knows what kind of virus they contain.

ibex94 02-23-2024 02:19 PM

Love our moderators!

Ourworkbench -- you were reporting folks to a spam site off QB, too. Should we all do that in addition to sending the notification to Patrice that the message is spam?

OurWorkbench 02-23-2024 02:25 PM

No, I just wish that Internet Brands and Quilting Board would use stopforumspam. When the spammers register their email or IP address could be checked and if listed, would not allow them to register. Would prevent posts from being posted from multiple places faster than they can be reported.

somoquilter 02-23-2024 05:06 PM

I will join in here thanking the moderators also.
Spam is so irritating and it ticks me off to see it here. Don't these people have anything better to do than spam?

Peckish 02-23-2024 06:35 PM

They're not always people. Lots and lots of bots.

cashs_mom 02-23-2024 08:05 PM

I'm usually not on later at night. Wow! Tons of spam posts.

Thank you so much moderators for taking care of all of this for us.

WMUTeach 02-24-2024 05:01 AM

I am not a late night reader but rather an early morning reader and oh, so many spam posts. Thank you moderators for clearing the out when board members report. Reporting is not hard, but what a bother when we want to just catch up on quilting topics and board friends. Thanks everyone!

dluvs2quilt 02-24-2024 05:38 PM

👍 yes thank-you

eparys 02-27-2024 05:54 AM

I too agree! The moderators all do a fantastic job. While I do not post a lot, I am a regular early morning reader and often see/report them as well. Thank you all for your diligence!

Jim's Gem 03-23-2024 07:15 PM

You are Welcome lovely quilters

Karamarie 03-24-2024 05:18 AM

I have never gotten a spam, at least that I am aware of. I have a desktop computer that was just updated to Windows 10, don't know if it matters what kind of way is more likely to have spam.

b.zang 03-24-2024 12:22 PM

We often forget that there is a lot of behind-the-scenes work done to keep this site running nicely for us. It's so nice to have this reminder and I much prefer to read through this thread than about something irritating. I don't read obvious spam. Kudos to the busy moderators.

It looks like Internet Brands/Quilting Board may be using some sort of list now. I've noticed :) !!! There may be a few that sneak in (particularly those that joined before they started using some sort of list), but think it is getting better about preventing spammers to actually post.

So THANK YOU!!!!

It does seem like there has been less spam lately. Thank you, thank you, thank you, mods.

no list.
i took a QB member's suggestion to moderate new registrations.
at first i "poo-poo,d" the notion because of the complaints we got when we tried it some years ago.

but ... those clowns got on my last good nerve so i decided to just do it and fight if i had to.

so ... thanks to the member who made the suggestion. :-)

annievee 04-21-2024 01:41 PM

thank you for your hard work, it is appreciated !

sewbizgirl 04-21-2024 10:18 PM

YES! Thank you so much for keeping this a great place to be.

Peckish 04-22-2024 08:28 AM

Well if anyone chooses to complain now, we got your back, Patrice, all of us will tell them it's actually better this way. Thanks for all your hard work!
