Here is what hubby does for his fun!

Guess he can't complain about my 2 good sewing machines. He's playing right now- from polkas to Irish melodies to something I remember singing to my oldest from a show (Here we come a wandering, along the leaves so green.... valderee, valderah, along the something we go.......maybe?)

I told him we could make it our Christmas card. (j/k!)

I must say I like to hear him, he's really getting quite good. I keep telling him he'll be a hit at the nursing home when we get there.

You know what's funny- I CAN'T POLKA! I'm musically declined! Actually I really want to learn before the 2 family weddings next year.

Barb

P.S. I just realized the album is right here by me- it's called the Happy Wanderer. Brings back memories.

WOW! That's cool. I haven't heard polka since I was a child at a lutheran church picnic when we lived in St Louis.

Baren*eh*ked_canadian 11-18-2008 06:42 PM

Lol, my mother used to play the accordian, but she only has ONE. That's one heck of a collection! I thought I was weird with my guitars lining my hallway.

beachlady 11-18-2008 07:23 PM

Nice hobby and nice looking hubby!!

Celeste 11-18-2008 07:25 PM

How fun to be serenaded!

b.zang 11-18-2008 08:53 PM

Hey, the accordian is the first instrument I learned to play! Tell your hubby he has a nice collection. Too bad I can't listen to him play, the accordian still holds its own in my heart.

You don't need to learn to polka if you learn to play

Quilt4u 11-19-2008 03:21 AM

Wow. As long as he enjoys it why not.

reneebobby 11-19-2008 03:33 AM

Button Boxes I love them my family is big into them.

Alaskan lady 11-19-2008 04:00 AM

Great pictures. Thanks for sharing your story. Growing up in Southern Mn. we had lots of polka bands and polka festivals.

Bevanger 11-19-2008 06:32 AM

MsSage 11-19-2008 08:22 AM

Very cool I am glad to read I am not alone in liking the music.

You know what's funny- I CAN'T POLKA! I'm musically declined
LOL neither can I but like singing I still do it anyway LOL

zyxquilts 11-19-2008 10:23 AM

You need to take one more pic of him with his accordian with a Santa hat on! LOL
Polkas are easy to dance - we used to go to the Oktoberfest in the local mountains every year & dance, dance, dance! lol (& I don't even drink!)

purpl7 11-19-2008 10:34 AM

That's awesome! I play the string bass, and have always loved bluegrass music, and polkas...well, any kind of music. It's something that grabs you, too. :D

Harmony 11-19-2008 11:16 AM

Can he play all of them at once? Because THAT would be really awesome!

DCJ 11-19-2008 04:14 PM

CissyQuilts 11-19-2008 06:32 PM

Ask him to play for us! His accordions are all awesome. Not many people play those anymore. Good for him!

Celeste 11-20-2008 12:49 AM

My Sis said: What an awesome man! You're very lucky!

sandpat 11-20-2008 05:59 AM

Well, he sure looks happy...and I love a happy husband!!! Great collection!

mommaB 11-20-2008 07:26 AM

When I was a kid we had a polka Mass every week!!! I had a polka band at my wedding!! Cleveland had (and still has) lots of polka music. On Sundays I think you can still catch polka music on the radio!! Its fun :D :D

tlrnhi 11-20-2008 07:29 AM

Thanks! Now I have that song stuck in my head.
And yes...I know ALL the words!! lol

Barbm 11-20-2008 10:17 AM

I need to make a CD of the music from that kid's album. Send to Noah in Japan. He can play it right after his CD of polkas.

DD has a video of him clapping and dancing to the polkas.

When they lived with us, very Sunday hubby put the polkas on and he would take the baby and bounce him on his knee and clap his hands in time to the music. Noah loved it! We used to laugh at the two of them with the big smiles on their faces.

How I miss him! (only 5 more months and they will be stateside! It looks like Vegas!)

Hey- Terri- did you sing John Jacob Jingleheimerschmitt to the girls? Or- on top of spaghetti?

We still have polka masses here and on public tv every Sat. night is polkas- with our Register of Wills as hostess. It comes on after the hour of local ballroom dancing.

Shemjo 02-25-2010 10:46 AM

Your hubby looks like my cousin with her collection of squeeze boxes! My mom played the button box. Me, I am a wonderful audience!

lots2do 02-25-2010 11:54 AM

Oh, that picture just makes me smile!
My grandfather, never knew him, played one too.

nativetexan 02-25-2010 12:10 PM

Hey he can play tunes for you while you free motion quilt!!

quazyquilter 02-25-2010 12:12 PM

Yup 5 accordians sure beats out 2 sewing machines...Tell hubby, you need at least one more sewing machine to even things out.

Barbm 02-25-2010 12:17 PM

I have 3 machines at the office and 6 here at home. I don't any more machines, just some time and $ to take them to be tuned up so I can give some to DDs.

FAYE 02-25-2010 02:34 PM

Polka dancing is "easier than falling off a log" I can remember a New Years Dance...had new shoes...wore the soles thru that night...Polkas & Square dancing keeps one very young

Oklahoma Suzie 02-25-2010 02:43 PM

How cool.

rootyr 02-25-2010 03:20 PM

Very cool! Enjoy!

cindyg 06-14-2010 12:37 PM

This is so cool. My DH bought himself an accordian and has barely started teaching himself to play it. We go to New Braunfels, TX to the Wurstfest every year. Wonderful polka music coming from big tents and the huge dancehall. What fun for young and old alike there. Does your DH play in a band?

rootyr 06-14-2010 01:42 PM

Very cool!

Barbm 06-15-2010 08:40 AM

Hubby doesn't feel he is talented enough to play in a band. I think he is....

Kara 06-15-2010 09:07 AM

Um... yea... I'd say he's addicted

Bevanger 06-15-2010 09:13 AM

Awwww I wish I could here him play. I used to love listening to my Uncle play polkas.

SulaBug 06-15-2010 10:36 AM

What a collection your husband has there!! I am so glad you have shared your picture's with all of us. They bring back so many memories. Thank you for sharing!!
