Watching my 2 sons (adults) completely destroy in a year the quilts I made for them. They will never get another.

It wasn't the quilt - it was the picture. I made my grandson a wedding quilt with a tree of life panel and batiks. I was horrified to find it as a couch cover. IMO, you do not sit on the tree of life. That same grandson and his wife do not wash his Quilt of Valor often enough to suit me. They think they'll ruin it - I think dirt is worse for it. His cousin is using his QOV as a dog bed. His mother, my daughter, was horrified, but I don't care. I like dogs. The GS says the dog is his baby and deserves something nice.

When we were buying and selling antique quilts, we bought one that was nailed to the wall. Wound up selling it (through a shop) to a famous actor and his wife.

Also, spending winters in AL at the beach, I saw a lot of people using vintage quilts as beach blankets.

Went to a 4th of July fireworks display. The family in front of us put a hand embroidered and quilted queen size on the grass and the kids walked all over it! Wanted to grab it up and run.

Staff at a LQS saying unkind things about a customer who just left - right in front of me! Wondered what they said when I left!!! Never went back to that store.

I enclose a sheet of paper with instructions on how to care for a hand made quilt. Some people don't have a clue!

This did not happen to me, but another quilter had made a lovely quilt for someone in her family. She went to visit one day and saw it under the car to protect the driveway from oil.

What horrifies me is when a quilt shop doesn't keep up with the quilting world. If I ask about a new product and get the you must be crazy look I never go back. Now I take the magazine ad or pull up the website for a new product and show it before I ask. I'm shocked at how many shop owners have no idea of the new products available. They restock from the same old inventory list from a decade ago. And they wonder why so many shops are closing. I won't shop where what I want isn't available.

I made nice Thimbleberry pattern quilt My niece fell in love with it and I gave it to her and her new DH for a wedding gift. About a month later I noticed a picture she posted on Facebook. The quilt was in the background hanging as a shower curtain. I enlarge the picture and could tell holes were poked in it for the shower hooks. I didn't say anything but I was sad because I wanted the quilt for me but gave it to her.

I must say I am a bit puzzled by the reactions to how quilts are uased. I like to make quilts that are used (for whatever). If they get damaged, it's my excuse to make another one.
