I see an old rolliing pin and an old egg beater so you could go with antique collectibles..

I collect all sorts of old 40s and 50s kitchen stuff. You could find things at yard sales and at junk shops like GoodWill and Salvation army etc. I like spice tins and rolling pins and utensils of that era and I collect white granite ware. You can still find these things in antique stores for not too much. I give $2 or $3 for a spice tin. I have old muffin pans and iron skillets etc.

If the old collectibles interest you there is a lot out there yet.

I have some of that, too. I also have a collection of tin recipe boxes. No one I know does that. I have a huge collection of Fire King Jadite that I got when it was still inexpensive. And also a collection of Cobalt blue glass anything!

I have a whole kitchen of John Deere stuff still in boxes in the garage in storage. Oh, and I just love the little "chef" figures and accessories.

You are lucky to have wall space in your kitchen. I have no wall space at all, only the backsplash and the space from cabinets to ceiling. I like the unexpected in kitchen decor. I would have sock monkeys and the Campbells Kids hanging out with the Pillsbury dough boy on my wall if I had one. Your kitchen looks so comfortable. :D

I love your apple kitchen! Mine is birdhouses right now but thinking about a change too. Guess it's spring fever Jerrie! Don't know what I want???

Chickens would be nice!
Cute, CUTE chicken blocks out there to make! :)

At one time, in one house we lived in, my kitchen was cats. Curtains, pot holders, oven mitts, towels, EVERYTHING....even had cat table cloth and placemats!

mochasue 04-20-2009 01:19 PM

Okay....so what have you decided on?

My husband would kill me.

Love your apple kitchen! For a reallly quick change, you could
paint all of your apples "apple green" and make green checked curtains.

New Look. No trauma.....

Darlene 04-21-2009 03:26 AM

Mine is a combination of roosters and blue and white dishes on the wall above the cabinets.

Dragonomine 04-21-2009 04:25 AM

My first kitchen when I got married was decorated in cows! I loved them! We moved to a larger house in 99 and the kitchen needs remodeled badly but that's a few years down the road. So i just slapped some light blue and white paint on the walls and cabinets. When we remodel we're updating to modern. Black appliances, dark grey marble counters, track lightling, etc. I'm very excited about it!

key4unc 04-21-2009 05:02 AM

I've always thought I'd like to do my kitchen in teacups.
This isn't my quilt but wouldn't this be cute in a smaller version to put on a kitchen wall.

I vote CHICKENS!!!!! Come join us in making chicken blocks for your new wall hanging, pot holders and table runner...

Actually, I like your apple collection. You could just paint the kitchen walls a different color like a light green and still use your apples...they would look totally different on a different background.

Shemjo 04-21-2009 08:54 AM

What a nice kitchen you have. So bright, and CRISP! I am piggy backing on an earlier comment. Have fun!

leona07 04-21-2009 09:50 AM

I love the apples!!! My mom moved into a new home about a year and a half ago and I went with her to pick out her kitchen window curtains. We both fell in love with a set of curtains with apples on them, they were too cute!!! My mom also liked a set with birdhouses on them that were cute too!! However, she decided on the apples because her kitchen is painted a wine red color and the apples would go perfect. BUT the curtains didn't come in the right sizes. She ended up not even using curtains anyhow!!!! She had her husband build her a shelf across the middle of the window for plants instead. A curtain isn't really necessary anyway because they live in the sticks and there is no one to see in the window anyway!

My kitchen stuff is black and red with a ladybug theme. Stuff that isn't red/black ladybug is polished stainless steel. I also have some of the "chef" stuff because it goes really well with the red and black!!

Mamagus 04-21-2009 10:56 AM

And you know what? Sometimes it just takes a little bit of updating in the decor and what you have will fit right in.

My sister has apples in her kitchen now... navy paint on am accent wall, navy curtains with a stripe of red and a strip of ivory along the hemmed edge..., navy counter top. And then she accented it with apple decorations.

The room is fresh and crisp! Just like apple decor should be!
