This is not good as a replacement for a computer. Screen is too small. Get a tablet from Verizon would be my suggestion.

I got lucky when I got my current phone. a Galaxy Samsung 3. Got a free tablet. Love it. We get good service.

I got what a great android tablet by NuVision for $149 @ Costco online. Total loaded even has two cameras. I am delighted with it but still trying to learn the ropes. This is my first one and I don't have a smart phone.

i have been withT-mobile since 2006, and have great reception, they also have great programs for helping to pay for the newer fancier phones. DH has an android, and I have an Iphone 5c. I much prefer my Iphone. It is as good for those things you mentioned ans my Ipad. The best part is due to the lowcost financing you might be able to afford and larger or fancier phone. I have visual problems so the android format is too difficult for me to try and read, and the Iphone has a very crisp clear picture, so reading is easy. I will say that the Iphone 5c is awful little for playing anything but the simplest games, but the new Iphones are larger and easier to see. T-mobile has worked out so well, that we no longer keep a house phone.
