Acorn is our go-to channel to watch. It seems Netflix has older shows and I must say I like the old way of ordering from them, DVD's in the mail, newest releases every month, etc.

Buy a Roku. I have a Roku 3 and get everything. One of my daughters has a Roku 2 and gets most things. They cost between $30 and $80, purchase price, no monthly fees. When you sign up for Netflix, you can set several accounts. One of my daughters pays for Netflix and all three of us are on her account, another pays for Amazon Prime and all of us are on her account so we get amazon prime tv and free shipping on amazon. We have done the same thing with Hulu, Acorn and Britbox (these last 2 give us all the british and australian shows). Most everyone I know has done this and given up cable. We can get the local channels thru basic antennaes. One daughter can't so she has cable and pays for HBO. With her password, we are all able to sign on to HBO go and get Game of Thrones. So, now we all get much better tv without having 100 channels that no one watches or wants and instead of paying $150 per month, most of us pay $20 - $30 per month. Go online to check out ROKU and see all the free channels you can get. I have kid's programming (for the babysitting weekends) workout channels, lots of music channels and some really odd but entertaining channels. I even have youtube on the big tv so I can watch Jenny in 42"! Point is - they are my choice and they are free!

I have Amazon prime and have the app for movies on my tablet. While it doesn't have local channels it does have a few things that interest me, first of all right now I'm catching up on the first season of Salvation that is currently on local channels. I also like Grim and It's sew easy. I've never heard of Acorn. I did away with all cable, put unlimited data on my tablet thru Sprint and bought antennas for all of my TV sets. crystal clear pictures, and I'm saving over 75 a month by doing this

I wish I could convince DH to give up cable. The cable bill is expensive. He doesn't seem to mind the cost so I let it be.

fruitloop, I just watched a really cute comedy movie on Acorn, called The Golden Years; that was about a bunch of retirees (or pensioners, as they call them in the UK!) who were cheated out of their money and had to take some drastic action to get it back. :) I also love (although it might be a little on the vulgar side for some people), the comedy series Raised by Wolves. Loch Ness is next on my list to watch.

I am an Amazon Prime subscriber but my Acorn subscription is directly through them (not through my Amazon account). I actually bought the Acorn subscription after it was mentioned by somebody on this Board!

I too have more than one Roku in my house; they are the best money I've ever spent!

All of those programmes in your list are really good, I enjoyed them all, although some of them are quite old now. Detectorists is being rerun here at the minute - I really love it, and in constant hope that there will be a S4.

Thank you for the Info. Will look into Roku too. We have a 'new' cable company which will remain nameless that has not been desirable. Have it in both places now which makes us nervous.

Unfortunately, in my area we cannot use antennas. Don't remember why but we can only do Comcast, Dish, DirecTV,etc. Can't get local channels without it.

I've been hearing a lot of bad things on this board about Comcast- I don't believe we have it in our city but I think all the cable companies are terrible. I would love to get rid of it.
