Those of you who subscribe to digital quilting mags,
do you have any tips for how to create a personal index? I see quilts I would like to try later, but how do I find them again? So far all I can figure out is to create a Word file with categories such as "children" and then subcategories such as "puppies" and then the file name of the downloaded magazine issue that contains the pattern. What I would really like is to have categories with photos of the quilts.
So far I have subscribed to Quilter's World digital mag and am in the process of downloading all the archived issues. However, as I download I would also like to be somehow indexing the patterns I am especially interested in. Help??? |
I am in the exact same boat of downloading all the QW mags and wishing I could take snippets out of each one. Will be watching...

I don't subscribe to digital mags so am not sure what format they are saved in.
IF they are .pdf files and if you are using a PC (not Mac or tablet or Kindle etc) you can purchase a program called Cute PDF Professional online. It lets you extract and save selected pages from .pdf files and save them separately. Costs about $30.00 or so. Use it at work and is well worth the price. Just Google it and take alook. |
I select print and then select as my printer Cute PDF. It saves the selected pages I want to print as pdf. file.
Cute PDF is a free program. You don't need the professional version. http://www.cutepdf.com/ I select send to Kindle in my printing options if I want to save the pages on my Kindle. send to Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle |
Thanks to both of you!!! I just downloaded CutePDF Writer (the free version) and was able to save a pattern by printing it to CutePDF. Very easy!
I'm thinking I would need to pay for the pro version if I wanted to create a file that consists simply of single pages from multiple magazines (I am thinking just photos of quilts), right? The pro version is $49.95. |
I print one page or multiple pages using CutePDF. The page can be photo or text or both. Then I create a new folder, name it and put any of the single pdf files in it. My folder has pictures and patterns from different magazines and issues.

Will certainly have to do this. Thanks, all.

I guess I'm confused. When I see a free pattern or pic of something I want to save. I download it and save in my download files. Then I go back to my download files and make folders and just highlight the file and move it to the folder. What am I missing? If it's just a pic, you can always go back and rename the file from a jpg or bmp to a pdf or vice versa.

Oh, speaking of online mags. I was wondering, do you feel the $10/yr you will use it enough to warrant.
