Tide Pods

Has anyone used those new Tide Pods? How many are in a pack and are they expensive. I use powdered Arm and Hammer and now they have a similar product. Thanks

donnajean 03-24-2012 05:17 AM

I stick to the liquid detergent as I think it takes too long for the pods to disolve & could get stuck in a piece of clothing. Also, I can't see spending the extra $. I also use the liquid to poor on more heavily soiled areas of clothing when adding to washer.

ALL Tide products are expensive. They come in a few different numbers to a container .....I have a front loader and those types of detergants dont seem to dissolve if they get caught up into a piece of clothing. I like liquid best !

Let's see, Tide is already so expensive thieves are stealing it to sell on the black market - and now with the "added convenience" of a pod, I'm sure it is beyond my price range!!

ETA - I just checked on Amazon and it seems to be about 33 cents a wash - regular Tide liquid is about the same.

I saw that on the news the other day! Could you imagine someone coming up to you on the street, opening their coat, and asking if you want to buy some tide, cheap?!

Costco has them 90 in a container for $19.99. I was tempted to try them out, but opted for a liquid detergent for a lot less $$ that does a pretty good job cleaning laundry. I'm going to wait for a coupon and then try them.

years ago, one of the detergent was available in compressed 'cakes". They were pricey too but I liked to take them on our ski trips when our rooms were in condos where a washer and dryer was part of the package. They didn't take up much room in our luggage or I could stuff them in my ski boots, and didn't have to worry about spilled liquids. I did some wash before we left and didn't have to do it when we got home!

nativetexan 03-24-2012 01:03 PM

wait awhile, they will probably be sold on the street corner!

I don't use the Tide ones as Tide breaks almost everyone in the house out. I am using a bag of the Arm and Hammer ones that I bought at Dollar General for $7 for a 50 pack. I really like them, clothes are clean and I haven't found any signs of undissolved detergent. I really like them because of arm problems, not heavy like liquid.

"Good Housekeeping" magazine, April 2012 issue, page 119, has a very informative page on Clean Laundry,
comparing Tide to several other brands. Tide tested best on heavily soiled test loads, but there are other brands
that do very good jobs for less money.

I like the purex sheets that have the detergent and softener all together.

I bought some sample packs of them with 3 in a package to put in my hubby's suitcase when he's working out of town. They seemed to work just fine. And were much easier to pack than a gallon jug of detergent.

I use the all free pods and I love them... they dissolve very quickly and now I get more loads for my money as Im always using too much liquid..

Havent used the Tide Pods- ALL was cheaper and is perfume and dye free..

I dont have any children at home anymore and my husband and I dont get our clothes 'dirty' so a lesser expensive detergent works for me ...

Marilyn, I don't get that magazine. Which other detergents do as well as Tide. I have always had better luck getting clothes clean with Tide. I always clip coupons and watch for it to be on sale before buying.

Haven't seen the All Free pods? I do use the All Free liquid, since I have allergies. Costco only had the liquid.

pdolls 03-25-2012 07:27 AM

very easy for hisband to use he will not spot clean clothes and I fine the dye leaves a staain if I do when taking them off so I say go for it

BellaBoo 03-25-2012 07:42 AM

I love the pods for detergent. I bought the Tide Pods at Walmart, didn't check the price though. Just toss and done. No spills, no measuring. I noticed All has pods now too. I quit buying bottles or boxes of detergent when the detergent sheets were available. The sheets are getting hard to find now. I'm glad the pods are here.

steelecg 03-25-2012 07:48 AM

Expensive or not - pods are a godsend for disabled and blind people - glad to see they are back

jackiemc 03-25-2012 09:09 AM

Hi Ragquilter, Will check out the Arm and Hammer ones. DG is my first go to store before I go to Giant Eagle. Thanks

Steady Stiching 03-26-2012 03:42 AM

I looked at them.....seems like they figured out a way to repackage an already expensive product and make it even more expensive. I'll save my money and buy more fabric.

gollytwo 03-26-2012 03:55 AM

I get an e-mail from Tide occasionally. They were offering a free sample of the pods. You had to "like" them through Facebook to get it. I'm not into social media so that ended it.
You might try Tide's website to see if the offer is still available.

meanmom 03-26-2012 04:13 AM

I use nothing but Tide. MY husband is a landscaper and my son is a mechanic. Nothing else get my stuff clean. We also break out in rashes from various other detergents. I got tired of trying other brands I had to give away because of skin allergies. I got a sample pack of 3 of the pods and they seemed to work well. I have a front loader with a detergent dispenser and there was noting left in there when the load was done. I would buy them again if they aren't more expensive.

Most of my family is allergic to Tide also. I can only use Cheer Free,All Free and Clear or Purex Free. I like the liquid type best.

I found a solution to the heavy liquid soap problem after shoulder replacement surgery. By moving things around a bit I discovered that I could put my liquid soap in the cupboard above my washer. (top loader thank God!) Then I set up one of those huge jugs that has the faucet type dispenser. Now I open my washer top, push the little dispenser knob and let the soap flow into the washer. I also learned my clothes get clean without using as much soap as the manufacturer suggests. I can buy smaller jugs of liquid soap and fill the large jug from them. Easier, cheaper, no heavy lifting and I feel so smart!

BellaBoo 03-26-2012 08:57 PM

Tide Pods are gel so the dissolving isn't an issue. I bought a package of the Arm and Hammer pods to use on non clothing misc laundry. Waiting for Woolite pods!

I found a sample pack of 10 "ALL" packs and really like them. I am planning on using them when we travel.
