Tipping a Hairdresser

Although I always tip a hairdresser 20%, $15 seems so high on top of highlights for $75. Please weigh in. ;-)

I always tip 20% for my hairdresser. She does an excellent job each month with color and cut. Highlights are added in every 3 months. Sometimes, I schedule out 3 to 4 months of appointments so I can have my desired days/times. This works well during holidays and special events.

Were you happy with your hair? Is this the regular stylist that does your hair?

I adore my hairdresser. Honestly, good ones are harder to find than new doctors!!!! My hairdresser charges just under $40 for a wash and cut--and she is so talented that I can go 4 months between cuts! I absolutely tip her and tip her well!!

Yes, tip at 20% ! Especially if you have a good one. Trust me they are worth it; my mother was a hairdresser for 50 years :-)

Yes, I, tip my hairdresser 20%. And yes, it does seem like a lot of money all together but she is worth it to me.

I tip a bit over 20%. My hairdresser is wonderful and does such a good job on my hair. I consider 20% a bargain.

I tip my hair dresser heavily, here's why: I don't go very often, and I only go when I'm fed up with my hair, and ready to cut it off. I call her and she will always fit me in within the hour (I don't mind waiting 20 minutes when I get there, that's fine!) ... I usually end up getting either a perm, colouring, or something, so I'm there for at least 2 hours. My perm costs $75, colour is $60 and a cut is an extra 20 (trust me, that 20 is cheap, since I usually only go every 6 months!)

I will easily tip her $50 ... why? because she has never said no to me. Again, I don't mind if I have to wait a bit when I get there, I don't mind if she runs off in between doing things (i.e. to check on other people). I bring a book, and enjoy two hours of silence to read, and walk out with my hair done.

For me, so worth it. In the end, if I actually scheduled 4-5 visits a year, the tip amount would be about the same anyway.

well worth it. they stand on their feet ALL day long.
They have to deal with all kinds of people and all kinds of hair.
Remember, they make you feel good and look good.
20% to me is appropriate. You will give a waitress 20%, why not the person who's been working on you for 2-3 hrs.

I tip 20% also. they really don't make much otherwise.

I took my grandmother Nancy to her hairdresser when she could no longer drive. I was shocked that she only tipped her hairdresser $0.50. Fifty cents! This was in 1995. Her hairdresser said it was okay because for years it used to be only a quarter. I made up the difference in what the tip should have been. Never could get grandma to tip more.
