Total Lunar Eclipse

Total Lunar Eclipse this evening - Sunday, September 27, 2015 - (mid continent USA will be able to see a total eclipse)

Check for local viewing times.

We will be able to see the eclipse here in Oregon. But the eclipse will already be in progress by time the moon rises here.
Still it will be a extraordinary experience to have been witness to. They are calling for clear skies tonight thankfully. The past few meteor showers have been blocked by clouds.

It's been very cloudy in IL today, but it looks like it's breaking up a bit now. I've been looking forward to the eclipse all week.

Too cloudy here in central NJ as well. Have checked 2x so far - still no visible moon. Drats!

lynnie 09-27-2015 05:43 PM

way to cloudy here on Long Island NY.
been hoping it would clear, but doesn't look that way.

Tartan 09-27-2015 05:50 PM

About half way here but pretty cloudy.

Up North 09-27-2015 06:11 PM

We can't see it here in North East MichigAN either because of cloudy sky dang it!

NikkiLu 09-27-2015 06:42 PM

Seeing it perfecting in SW Missouri - fabulous sight with binoculars - going back outside now

Chasing Hawk 09-27-2015 06:43 PM

We can see it.

If we stand on the curb in our driveway halfway from the house to the shop, tilt our heads slightly to the right. Bend at the knees and peek between two tall pine trees we can see the moon.

I went out about 9; clouds had cleared here. Moon was about 3 /4th obscured then I've been sitting outside watching it since. Wish I could get a decent photo of it.

gramajo 09-27-2015 06:47 PM

Great photos, Jeanne.

Chasing Hawk 09-27-2015 06:47 PM

Amazing photos Jeanne!

My big brother Bryan lives just south of Tulsa.

Chasing Hawk 09-27-2015 07:16 PM

The trees are now obscuring the view of the eclipse. On the upside we have an amazing view of the stars, they are so bright.

nanacc 09-27-2015 08:35 PM

Great pics, Jeanne! You got generally the same view that we had from our back porch here on the farm. Great!!

We watched it here in Minnesota. Perfect night for viewing the moon from our front lawn. Our daughters, both middle school aged also enjoyed it. I was so excited that it happened early in the evening for us. ( fully eclipsed by 9:10p.m.) Usually when lunar or star events occur, it's at 3am or something... I need my sleep! This was the coolest lunar event I've ever witnessed! When I went out to check again at 10:15, the clouds had started rolling in, and had obscured much of the moon. So glad it was clear early on.

Yooper32 09-28-2015 04:19 AM

Dummy me forgot all about it. I am so mad at self. I have perfect viewing of the moon rising here too at almost all times.

sparkys_mom 09-28-2015 04:29 AM

Wonderful photos, Jeanne. It was way too cloudy here to see anything. :(

*** Upstate South Carolina was too cloudy to see it.
***
*** The Red Moon won't be back for 18 years - I will probably be blind or dead by then.

We could see it perfectly until the moment it was supposed to be red - then clouds. How disappointing.
I looked online and saw we only had to wait until 2033 to see it again.

The site said it occurred in 1982. That explains the red moon photos I fond. We didn't have a digital camera then, )did anyone?) and it was a year after we got married. My husband worked nights then so that explains why a newlywed had time to photograph the sky.
It also said it occurred in 1968. That would have been my first, I was 10, but I don't remember hearing anything about it back then.

nativetexan 09-29-2015 08:23 AM

Ha, ha. I finally remembered to look at it about 10:20 p.m. Saw a bit of darkness in the upper right edge of the moon. Figured it was just starting and I went to bed. Turns out it was ending. Anyway, I missed it!
